1. Helping: “I lost my dog can you help me find him”. Say “Sorry I don’t know you” and walk away. Do not help adults you do not know. 2. Bribing: “Hi, I’m playing with my son’s video game and the batteries seem to be dead. I have some in the car. Can you come over and help me put them in?” Say “Sorry I don’t know you”. Stay away from stranger’s cars. 3. Having fun: “Hey kid I’m going to the park to play on the swings. Do you want to come with me?” Ignore him and walk away immediately. Never go to the park with an adult you don’t know. 4. Getting a job: “Hey buddy, I’ll give you $10 if you take my bags to the car.” Ignore him and walk away immediately. Your safety is more important than showing good manners. It’s OK to say no to an adult you do not know. 5. Being a play mate: “Hey kid I’ll teach you how to hit this ball right over the fence. Come on it’ll be fun!” Ignore him and walk away immediately. You should not play with adults that you do not know. 6. Emergency: “Your mum’s been hurt and she is in the hospital.” Ask them for the ‘secret password’. If they do not know it (which they won’t) then ignore them and walk away. 7. Affection: “You look like you need a friend. Would you like someone to talk to?” Say “no thank you” and walk away. It is unusual for an adult to ask a child to be their friend. 8. Authority: “Come on kid open the door!” Never open the door to a stranger, even if they seem friendly or know your name. Even though your parents may not be in the house, scream out “DAD!” so that the person thinks you are not alone. 9. Key role: “Hi there, I’m a professional photographer. Come over here and I will take a photo of you?” Say“I have to ask my parents” and walk away. NEVER walk up to a stranger’s car or get into a stranger’s car. 10.Threats: “If you tell anyone about me you’ll be in trouble!” Always tell your parents if anyone threatens you in any way. You will never be in trouble for saying no to any stranger.
