XIV TERRAS DO INFANTE – LAGOS DOS DESCOBRIMENTOS
EUROPEAN CUP 1ST STAGE – 2017
REGULATIONS
1. ORGANIZATION
The “Terras do Infante” speed skating competition is organized by Roller Lagos Clube de Patinagem. It
counts on the collaboration of the CEC committee (Comité Européen de Course), the National Skating
Federation of Portugal, the Alentejo Skating Association, on the support of Lagos Municipality and São
Gonçalo de Lagos parish council as well as its partnerships with various local institutions. The
tournament will be the 1st stage of the European Cup 2017 in the Cadets, Juniors B, Juniors A and
Seniors Elite classes.
2. DATES
The event will be taking place from 7-9 April 2017 – Friday, Saturday and Sunday. On Monday, 10
April, there will be a clinic for athletes and a training session for coaches at the Júlio Dantas secondary
school.
3. VENUE
The venue for the races will be the 200 m Vesmaco-coated banked track at the Julio Dantas secondary
school, the main avenue in Lagos Avenida dos Descobrimentos and the streets and roads of Lagos
council.
4. PARTICIPATION
The competition is open to all skaters from the Benjamins class and upwards who wish to participate,
competing in their respective age group, in male and female classes, over three days of competition.
Athletes of any nationality may take part in the competition representing clubs, schools or teams, or as
individual competitors.
5. REGISTRATION
Registrations are limited and must be submitted in accordance with the standards indicated in the
following paragraphs:

c) Deadline for registrations – The deadline for registrations is at midnight on 31 March 2017. After
this date, and upon payment of an extra charge to be determined, the organization may decide
whether or not to accept late entries.
d) Packages – “Packages” including accommodation and meals are available, which should be booked
and paid for separately from the registrations.
e) Payment – Registrations only become valid once online payment has been made.

7. BIB NUMBERS AND CHIPS
Bib numbers and chips must be collected from the tournament office, located in the sports hall of the
Júlio Dantas School, on Friday 7 April, from 10 am onwards, in exchange for a deposit or ID, which will
be returned at the end of the tournament.
8. RULES
The competition is ruled by the present regulations and any omissions in these regulations shall be
ruled by the National Speed Skating Committee of the National Skating Federation of Portugal.

10. CLASSIFICATION
To obtain the final classification, an Individual Final Ranking is made.
The Individual Final Ranking is calculated based on the total number of points obtained by each skater
in all races. Points are awarded for each race in reverse order to the final classification of the race. The
skater who finishes in last place receives one point, whereas the skater who finishes in first place is
awarded the equivalent number of points to the number of participants in the race.
In the event of a tie in the Individual Final Ranking, the deciding race is the final race of the
competition (this applies to all age groups).
The Collective Final Ranking is calculated based on the number of points obtained in the Individual
Final Ranking by all athletes from the same club/team/selection.
In the European Cup there will be an individual classification in the sprint and long distance races for
the Cadets, Juniors B, Juniors A and Seniors age groups only. The 300 m time trial and 1 km races
count for the sprint ranking and the points obtained in the 3.5 km and 15 km races count in the
distance ranking.

11. PRIZES

a) Trophies and/or medals – all age groups
Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 skaters in all races by age group and gender, except for Seniors
Elite in which prizes will be awarded to the top 5 skaters in accordance with the Individual Final
Ranking.

In the European Cup Cadets, Juniors B, Juniors A and Seniors age groups, medals will be awarded to

b) Prize money for Seniors and Juniors A
Prize money (a total amount of € 4000) will be awarded to the 5 top winners in the Individual Final
Ranking in the Seniors Elite class, both male and female, as well as a trophy each. In addition, prize
money will be awarded to the 3 top winners in the Individual Final Ranking in Juniors A, male and
female, as well as a trophy each. Prizes will also be awarded to the top qualifiers in the marathon
event and to the Lagos track record holders, male and female, in the 300 m time trial.

c) Special prize money by race – Absolutos male and female
(all participating skaters from Cadets to Seniors and Masters):

300 m time trial – Track Record, the male skater (current record – 24,776’’ – Elton de Souza
– FRA) and female skater (current record – 27,168’’ – Sheila Posada – ESP) are the current
record holders in this event. Any skater who beats these times in their respective gender will
receive € 150

12. ACCOMMODATION AND MEALS
The organization indicates accommodation with event partners and offers packages specifying terms
for clubs and athletes.
It also provides a snack-bar service and meals for Friday (dinner), Saturday (lunch and dinner) and
Sunday (lunch) at the competition venue.

14. MEDICAL ASSISTANCE
The organization of the competition ensures the presence of medical emergency assistance.
However, the organization does not accept responsibility for any accidents or for the physical integrity
of the athletes in competition, who should have valid sports insurance.
15. COMPLAINTS
Any complaints or protests must made be in writing, addressed to the Chief Referee of the competition,
up to 10 minutes after the end of it.
16. OMISSIONS
All omitted cases shall be considered and resolved by the organization.
