Christchurch International Airport is pleased to invite participants in the SILVER FERN AIR RACE.
Christchurch International Airport has a proud heritage in International Air Races: not long after the airport opened, it was the finishing point for the international London to Christchurch
Air Race in 1953, and in 1987 it hosted the PDL International Air Race from Singapore to Christchurch to mark its Golden Jubilee. With another milestone in opening of Stage One of the new terminal, Christchurch Airport will now partner with the Silver Fern Air Race to host this event.

The SILVER FERN AIR RACE starts just before Easter next year on Monday 26 March 2012, with the aim to boost travel and business opportunities between Hong Kong,
Malaysia, Australia and New Zealand.
It also raises the profile in Asia of New Zealand aviation products and services and export commodities. A New Zealand Government promoted initiative.
The SILVER FERN AIR RACE is open to Corporate Jets, Airlines, Military aircraft, high performance turboprops and piston engine aircraft – with appropriate handicaps.
This is a multi national event: with a difference and a spectacular scenic destination. Designed to accommodate all classes.

ABOUT
The SILVER FERN AIR RACE was created as a world class air racing event commencing
straight after the final of the Hong Kong Rugby 7’s.
The destinations offer extensive business and investment potential. The race participants
have opportunities to meet destination Mayors and influential Government and Business
leaders; plus some of the most amazing scenery in the world, along with the chance to
experience golf, hunting, fishing, guided walks, fiords, lakes, mountains. Stay at Luxury Lodges
experiencing unspoilt vistas as far as the eye can see.
Experience the culture of the Maori, our original indigenous people in Aotearoa – The Land

The Silver Fern Air Race founding company, Queenstown based Zilling Limited is active in
export marketing and event management/sponsorship. The company was involved in the
successful 1987 PDL International Air Race from Singapore to Christchurch.
THE RACE
The SILVER FERN AIR RACE has four components.:
1. The SILVER FERN AIR RACE to Christchurch.
2. The opportunity to investigate business and investment potential.
3. The daytime traverse of the South Island to cross over Queenstown to land at TeAnau /
Manapouri, adjoining the spectacular Fiordland National Park.
4. The excitement of the famous Warbirds Over Wanaka heritage Air Show – with Gold
Passes included.

Jules has a long history associated with
NZ Aviation and Tourism & is a leading
businessman. He will be an aviation and
financial advisor.

Mat Wakelin is the Race Director,
having flown in three previous air
races - Singapore to Christchurch,
and London to Sydney, and around
Australia. He has also been race
director in three previous around
New Zealand air races, and has
been awarded an FAI Paul Tissandier
Diploma for services to air racing. Mat is an Air New Zealand 747 Pilot.

the stewardship of Ron Collins our
companies greatly benefitted from the
publicity generated in both Singapore
and New Zealand. Since then I have
worked with Ron on a number of
projects and I am confident he has the
ability to repeat the effort again for this
next air race.” – Lady Adrienne Stewart.
Lars Fellman has recently retired from
an executive position in one of the
top multi national brewing groups and
has moved to his lifestyle farm north
of Auckland in New Zealand. Lars has
a background in yacht racing with two
Whitbread Around the World races to
his credit and in general aviation, flying
his light twin all over several continents.
The farm has been equipped with a
landing strip and is now the base for
a couple of aircraft including a WWII
aerobatic trainer and a helicopter he
built himself.
