Ellen DeGeneres puts new Porsche Experience Center to the test
Comedian and talk show host Ellen DeGeneres took a spin
through the new Porsche Experience Center in Carson,
California, and the results were fast-paced fun.
With her executive producer and “best friend” Andy Lassner
along for the ride, DeGeneres toured the whole facility
including turns on the track with a professional driver and with
Ellen herself behind the wheel, cracking jokes all the way. The
video she screened on her talk show starts out with her
saying, “I love Porsches. So much I married one.” DeGeneres
is married to actress Portia De Rossi.
In the video, Andre Oosthuizen, Vice President of Marketing
for Porsche Cars North America, leads DeGeneres and
Lassner in a tour of the Carson facility, including the retail
store, restaurant, design center and video simulator lab.
“This is amazing. I got my start on Johnny Carson. I married a
Porsche. I’m here at Porsche in Carson. Come on! Full
circle,” says DeGeneres.
The real fun starts when DeGeneres goes out for a test drive.
She checks out several cars, honking the horns to see “if they
speak to me” before choosing the new Panamera for a test
ride with a professional driver behind the wheel. As the
Panamera effortlessly whips around the corners of the course,
Lassner squirms in the back seat at every turn while
DeGeneres just keeps laughing.
As Lassner steps to the side to recover from the ride,
DeGeneres steps behind the wheel of a 911 and puts her foot
to the floor. When asked how that feels, DeGeneres just says,
“Really fun! It’s kind of like I drive anyway.”
DeGeneres personally owns a Cayenne Turbo, so she
naturally tried out a Cayenne on the off-road course at the
Carson center, again with a reluctant Lassner in the back
seat. Both DeGeneres and Lassner tried out the skid pad with
more spinning fun.

The new Panamera: Courage changes everything
"A genuine sports car with the comfort of a luxury sedan,
without any compromises in everyday life. For sporty drivers
and their sporty passengers. This is why Porsche engineers
and designers have built the next Panamera. With the
courage of a new generation. How do you create an
unmistakable sedan that was born on the race track and is at
home on the road? With the courage to change. The courage
to make driving even more intuitive and at the same time more
intense. The courage to build a genuine sports car with four
business class seats.
In 2009, the Panamera appeared. It changed many things,
first and foremost the drivers of sedans. The Panamera is
proof on four wheels that sportiness and comfort do not have
to be contradictions in terms. "This diversity is what makes the
vehicle unique, and that is what guided us with the new
Panamera as well", comments Dr. Gernot Döllner, head of the
model range. "Nevertheless, we took many courageous steps
and developed not only the new body, new powertrain and
new chassis but also a completely new overall vehicle.
Through all the changes, however, the Panamera remains
faithful to its original conceptions." On the subject of
powertrain, we have also taken a new and courageous
direction here.
Porsche engineers show their courage with the Panamera
idea. By continuously challenging established ideas and
reinventing them. By reconciling apparent contradictions
between performance and comfort, dynamic response and
efficiency, work and family. And at the same time remaining
true to their roots, such as with the ignition on the left and the
tachometer in the middle—in short, with the typical Porsche
DNA. And because a Porsche always drives in the direction of
the future, the new Panamera models with Porsche Connect
Plus are also completely networked to the digital world.¹"
"The entire rear end is a highlight of the new Panamera. 'We
have used many elements typical of the Porsche DNA there,'
says exterior designer Peter Varga. 'The rear wing is shaped
in the style of the iconic 911, placing a greater emphasis on
width. Incidentally, the light panel integrated in the rear is a
new feature.'
Now, LED tail lights with a three-dimensional design define
the rear view of the Panamera. Below the light panel, there is
a black bar with the Porsche lettering in 3D providing an
additional connection to the tail lights and creating a new
element in Porsche's language of design. Like the previous
model, the new Panamera also has an adaptive, retractable
rear spoiler below the rear screen.
With the elegant sloping fly-line of the roof and the typical
Porsche curved windows mean that the Panamera displays its
visual affinity to the iconic 911 sports car in the side view as
well. What is more, the clear lines extending along the length
of the vehicle provide a sharpened sports car silhouette.
Additional new features include the vertical design of the air
outlet behind the front wheel housing as well as the striking,
steeply angled rear end. And an unmistakable appearance is
ensured by wheels up to 21 inches.²"
