PJS is very proud to be
in partnership with
Houston Center for
Literacy in providing
English classes to our
employees. For several
years now PJS
implemented an internal
program to provide
English classes to our
employees with the goal
of helping them improve
their English. For some
time now PJS has
wanted to further expand
these English classes to drive even greater participation. To that end
PJS found a great partnership with Houston Center for Literacy
allowing PJS to offer even more classes, at varying levels of
difficulty, and at multiple locations around Houston for PJS
employees. When it comes to traditional off­site adult education for
employees, there can be a disconnect between the employee and

Exciting things happening at PJS!
We love to hear praises from our
customers about what an excellent
job our employees are performing.
We heard from our customer of what
an outstanding job Santos Zelaya,
Project Manager and his crew were
doing. Santos is a great part of the
PJS family and we did not want to
miss the opportunity to show our
appreciation to him and all the
employees who work under his
supervision. We are not surprised
that under his leadership his account
would get recognition from our
customer. Santos, thank you and
your crew for all your outstanding
work! the employer because the training is rarely contextualized for the
job. This program model begins to close this gap by allowing the
employee to take these classes during work hours, on­site. This
allows the employers to see first­hand, the progress being made by
the employees. This new program also includes pay incentives to
complete a 12­16 week program. The goals of the program are to help employees get better equipped
to perform their jobs and be more qualified for even greater positions
within the company where they work. When it comes to adult
education of employees, sometimes there is a disconnect between
employers and employees. PJS believes that these classes will not
only help our employees become more proficient at their jobs but will
also help them build a better future for them and their families. We
can't wait to hear of all the success stories from our PJS

employees have exhibited. We used

PJS held an awards dinner for the
employees in Galveston to present
the Employee of Month recipients
with their certificates and gift cards.
We are extremely proud of the work
Gloria Flores has demonstrated in her
role as Project Manager. PJS wants
Houston Center for Literacy's mission is to equip every adult with
the basic skills they need to qualify for jobs that will allow them to
support their families and thrive as prosperous, independent,
successful members of our society. They recently launched the local
implementation of ENGLISH@WORK program, a workplace­based
adult education program developed by HCL partners
Literacy Coalition of Central Texas. This program is unique in that it
focuses on offering customized language lessons on critical job­
related skills ­ into the workplace. HCL launched the project in
Houston July 1, 2016 with four Houston employers (in the
hospitality, grocery, electrical, and facilities management industries),
and will be reaching out to add more corporate partners moving
forward. Martin Loa, VP of Program Services of HCL, indicated
that PJS students are being offered a distance learning component
to the class offered by Burlington English. Burlington English is a
web­based software program which students have access to 24
hours 7 days a week. The curriculum is industry specific tailored to
better meet the needs to of the students. The students are
encourage to complete at least 3 hours per week. Burlington English
is a web­based software program which students have access to 24
hours 7 days a week.
In the classroom, the instructor uses Burlington English to model the
lesson the student will be doing at home. This program that the Houston Center for Literacy is running with
PJS is part of a pilot program with only a select set of employers.
PJS is extremely proud of this partnership and is working hand­in­
hand with Houston Center for Literacy to maximize the program
capabilities. Sheri Suarez Foreman, CEO of HCL, is also very
excited of the opportunity to work with employers such as PJS. She
stated that as soon as she reached out to Brent Southwell, PJS
CEO, he was extremely eager to participate in the program. Per
Mrs. Foreman, "They (PJS) have a great team that made this
happen for its employees. We hope to work with more employers as
progressive and innovative as PJS. These qualities make them the
perfect employer for this program". Sheri is working to add more
employers who will participate in the program. She also stated,
"We're excited to see employers who care about the education of
their employees. The benefits are that they will have better

children. She first started working with PJS as a part time cleaner
and because of her excellent work ethic was soon promoted to night
supervisor. She is now in charge of 7 other employees and works as
a Day Maid during the day as well. Thru all of Carmen's hard work
at PJS she is able to send money to her mother in El Salvador, help
her son go to school and is currently building a home in her country.
Carmen states how grateful she is to PJS for believing in her and
giving her the possibilities of going from part time cleaner to
becoming a supervisor and now a Day Maid which has allowed her
to accomplish all her goals. PJS is very proud to have Ms. Argueta
as part of the PJS family. Not long ago Carmen received
acknowledgment from both PJS and the customer where Carmen
works. While performing her regular duties Carmen found a gold ring
in the men's bathroom that she promptly turned it in to security. The
owner of the ring was extremely thankful but also quite surprised
someone had turned it in. As a thank you, Carmen received a
Certificate of Recognition and a gift card for her honesty. Carmen
was surprised by the acknowledgment and stated that she was only
doing the right thing.
In a recent work site walk thru where Carmen works, Brent
Southwell, CEO of PJS, had the opportunity to meet Carmen.
Carmen thanked Brent for all that he has done for her and other
employees like herself. Carmen commented how very happy she is
working for a company that has an owner like "Mr. Brent" who cares
for his employees. Brent also expressed his gratitude for all her hard
work. Carmen asked to take a picture with Brent who immediately
also took out his phone for a joint picture. Carmen is excited that
she will soon start to take advantage of the free PJS English
classes and hopes to continue her efforts to improve her job skills
and continue pursuing her goals. Carmen you are doing a
sensational job, keep up the good work!
