Background
• Government invited bids for new enterprise zones on 16th
July
• Completed applications via LEPs by 18th September
• Specific reference to multi-site bids (particularly in smaller
towns and rural areas)
• Benefits include:
• Occupiers: business rates discount up to £55k annually for 5 years
or 1st year Enhanced Capital Allowances (in Assisted Areas)
• LEPs/LAs: retain 100% business rates uplift for 25 years
• No specific requirement for LDOs; no specific support for
superfast broadband

• Strengthening the Kent Innovation Corridor
• Multi-site bid involves three schemes:
• Ebbsfleet Garden City (Lead: Ebbsfleet DC)
• Kent Medical Campus (Lead: Maidstone BC)
• Rochester Airport Technology Park (Lead: Medway Council)
• Total 64 hectares
• 230,000m2 new development floorspace for start-ups and
SME expansion
• Building on existing specialisms – life-sciences, advanced
engineering – and new opportunities in shaping a 21st
century ‘smart city’.
