Regina Blok Retires

This past week, campus faculty, staff,
students, and friends gathered to celebrate
the career, and retirement, of our Disability
Resource Center Director, Regina Blok.
Several of Regina’s colleagues spoke
publically of her enduring impact and
legacy on campus in the service of students,
faculty, and staff. Regina was joined by her
husband Johann. Together they regaled those attending with stories of
their life in California and plans for retirement in Oregon and Florida.
It was a moving event with lots of tears. Some were tears of saddness
for a friend leaving. Others were tears of joy
remembering a brilliant career. A a retirment
gift, Regina received a crystal vase as a home
for the many flowers she surrounds herself with
everyday. And, a gift certificate to a restaurant
on the Big Island of Hawai’i where she and
Johann are planning a retirement vactaion in
the next few weeks. Goodbye Regina. You
were the best, and will always be missed!

Colts Baseball Update Submitted by Coach Tony Lucca
The Colts baseball team opened up the 2015 campaign with three
very impressive early season wins over three perennial California
State Championship playoff contenders. On tuesday, Josh
Eclavea was the winning pitcher in tuesdays season opener as
the Colts defeated the Blue Devils from Merced 4-2. Josh did a
fantastic job completing 8 innings and allowing 2 runs.
Offensively, the Colts worked together pounding out a series of
hits over the course of the game, which enabled them to pull
ahead of Merced by 2. Chris Miguel closed out the 9th inning
on the mound to show that he can do more than play third base
and do damage at the plate. Jason Marley was three for four at
the plate also throwing out a would-be base stealer in a tightly
played ball game.
On Friday, The Colts defeated the Reedley Tigers 9-0 at Colt
Field in the second game of the season. Elijah Saunders, the Colts starting pitcher, was
nearly unstoppable going 7 innings and giving up just 4 hits and zero runs. To make matters worse for the
Tigers, the Colts offense came to play. With some big hits led by Jason Marley, who's on a tear at the
plate right now, and Jacob Martinez, Cañada had the upper hand throughout the course of the game.
Ryan Cortez took the mound in the 8th to finish things off. He did a great job securing a win for the
Colts. Finally on Saturday, the stands were full and the sun was shining as the Colts defeated Sierra
College 17-6 at Colt Field. After a near hour long first two innings with numerous hits from both teams
the stage was set for what turned out to be a slug fest for Cañada Colleges ball club. The entire team
contributed to this big win against a tough competitor, but there were definitely some standouts amongst
all the stellar performances. Randy Ventura went 6 for 6 with 2 triples, a stolen base and scored 5 times.
Jason Marley went 3 for 4 with 2 RBI's and 2 stolen bases. Chris Hau, who came into the game in the 6th
to relieve Rory McDaid, threw 4 innings with 3 Ks and gave up 0 earned runs. This win puts the 17th
ranked Colts off to a great start going 3-0 this week. Next up your Cañada Colts are on the road Tuesday
2/3 at Contra Costa and then are back home on Thursday and Friday afternoon 2/5,2/6, facing Mission
and Contra Costa. Game times are all at 2pm. GO COLTS!
