UCY Guide to Bike Components on As well as tracking your mileage of your bikes, did you know you can track mileage on individual components? I have just changed the chain on my winter bike and I want to keep a track on how many miles that chain covers. After all, how many miles have you covered since you last changed your chain or cassette. It’s useful to track the mileage of separate parts of your bike. Log into Strava and hover over your profile photo in the top right hand corner then select Settings. On the left, under My Profile, select My Gear. Add details of your bikes, if you haven’t done so already — name, brand, model, weight etc. This is a great way to keep track on the mileage of individual bikes too. Then click on the bike you wish to add the components too. Then click on Add Component. Click on the drop down box under Component Type and then click on the component you wish to add or replace. Once you have done this you can now add further details about the component—Brand, Model, Weight. You then have a choice to add a date. This can be Since the Beginning when you first had your bike, Today. If you added a new cassette last month then you can specify a date that you fitted it, Specify Date. Strava will then work out how many miles each component covers so you can plan an upgrade or maintenance schedule. You can even see if the new tyres fitted this year last longer than last years so you can check which represent value for money.
