CODE OF CONDUCT
At École Ross Sheppard High School all students have a right to:

It is expected that all Ross Sheppard students will:












Attend consistently be punctual and arrive pre
pared to all classes
Recognize and respect the rights of all students to
learn and teachers to teach
Respect the authority of all adults affiliated with
the school
Treat everyone in the building with courtesy and
respect
Behave at all times with dignity responsibility
and appropriateness
Strive for their personal best in all academic and
personal endeavors
Ensure pre-requisites have been successfully
completed for each course in which they are reg
istered
Complete all courses in which they register
Keep hallways clear and quiet during class time
Have a valid Ross Sheppard ID card on their per
son at all times
Dress appropriately for school
Refrain from wearing any head gear except for
specific religious reasons









Not be in possession or under the influence of
alcohol drugs or any illegal substance
Refrain from tobacco use in the building and on
school grounds
Refrain from the use of profanities racial com
ments or insulting statements
Refrain from any form of plagiarism
Not bully harass or intimidate other students via
the internet through technology/texting includ
ing initiation and/or froshing
Not be in possession of any weapon or dangerous
goods or use school supplies tools or parapher
nalia as weapons to harm intimidate or threaten
themselves or others
Refrain from using laser pointers
Use electronic devices in accordance with school
guidelines
Refrain from bringing or encouraging friends to
visit Ross Sheppard nor visiting other schools
without an official appointment
Failure to meet the expectations for appropriate behavior may result in any of the following consequences:
reprimand parental involvement loss of privileges community service detention and exclusion from class
removal from a course suspension or expulsion from the school/district.
A recommendation for expulsion from Ross Sheppard or the district will immediately occur as a result of any of
the following infractions:



Any form of fighting

Being in possession of a weapon

Any involvement in the sale of contraband or any
illegal substance
Uttering false messages (such as a bomb threat)
Any other serious offense which threatens the
safety or well-being of students or staff

STUDENT TECHNOLOGY USE AGREEMENT
All students will use the Ross Sheppard High School technology resources in an appropriate manner.
Students will:
 Use school facilities and equipment only for school related educational activities
 Use the Internet only for activities related to curriculum expectations
 Adhere to copyright laws
 Not transmit material that is in violation of local provincial or federal laws or regulations
 Refrain from sharing their user ID and password with anyone and will not use anyone else’s user ID or pass
word
 Access only personal files or those files to which they have been given permission to access by an authorized
staff member
 Use only school approved software in compliance with licensing agreements
 Avoid monopolizing systems overloading networks and printing excessive materials
 Adhere to class specific guidelines as outlined by teachers
 Images of the school students in the school and the use of the Ross Sheppard High School logo on personal
web sites are prohibited at all times.
MEDIA CONSENT FORM
Parents can revoke consent by contacting the Principal anytime. Edmonton Public Schools receives requests from
the media (newspapers magazines radio television stations and websites) to come onto school property to re
port on and/or photograph/record an aspect of the school or its programs. These requests can also be the result
of an invitation to the media to come to the school to profile an event or initiative.
The media coverage may be digitally manipulated published broadcast rebroadcast or sold to other media out
lets. It may also be posted on websites including Edmonton Public Schools external site YouTube Flickr and Ed
monton Public Schools’ Facebook page or used in other emerging technologies.
Media requests are carefully considered by the Communications department and the principal of the school be
fore being approved. Schools may co-operate with media to encourage the profile and celebration.
Schools must obtain parental consent before allowing media to take photos of or interview students at nonpublic events. This consent is only requested if individual students are identifiable in the pictures.
Edmonton Public Schools cannot prevent media outlets from photographing or interviewing students off of
school grounds. I am the parent/legal guardian of the student named or independent student/adult. I give Ed
monton Public Schools permission to include my child or me in the media coverage and its use as described
above.
FOIP CONSENT: Consent to post or publish student information
Ross Sheppard School is requesting your permission to use your child’s personal information (i.e. image grade
and/or name etc.) in public venues or on the Internet where the general public may have access to the infor
mation in order to communicate with parents the community and the general public.

by the school and school district. Examples include but are not limited to:
 video recordings brochures program booklets newsletters or publications displays accessing and
posting information to public websites or social media applications and other emerging technologies;
posting pictures videos podcasts or presentations online.
Classroom lessons may also be digitally recorded to provide material for staff development or to demonstrate
good professional practices. These recordings may be shared with other educational organizations.
Some websites may require students to login and provide information such as their name school and email ad
dress when they are sharing digital images videos and presentations across the school district or on public web

Pre-enrolment in SchoolZone for 2017-2018
Parents of current district students can select their preferred school for 2017-2018 by signing in to their parent SchoolZone accounts
beginning Monday, March 13 at 9:00 a.m. until Tuesday, April 18 at 4:00 p.m.
When parents sign in to their parent account, they can:




choose the “Next Year” tab
select the name of the child they are pre-enrolling
follow the instructions to select their child’s preferred school for next year
change the preferred school selection until 4 p.m. on April 18, 2017 (SchoolZone will track each change)
Course Selection in OSCR
Course selection is NOT part of pre-enrolment in SchoolZone. Junior high and High school students will choose their specific courses (e.g.
fine arts career and technology studies) through a separate process at their current school.
Address Verification
Please make sure that your child’s current school is aware of any address changes for your child. Schools may ask parents to provide
more than one form of documentation to verify their address. Examples of accepted documentation include:




driver's license
utility bill
lease agreement
property tax bill
