OUR TOWN Volume 48 PUBLISHED BY THE TOWN OF NEW MARKET APRIL 2017 MAYOR'S CORNER A warm welcome to April and all the beautiful things that accompany this beautiful month. As April approaches we see many changes to the weather, our surroundings, and the overall spirit of human beings. Everyone seems to catch the spring fever. We welcome the season that brings more sunlight, better moods, and a better climate for everyone to enjoy. The good thing about this fever though is that we certainly don't need a cure for it. I would like to thank the New Market Area Chamber of Commerce for hosting their annual banquet held on March 17, 2017 at The Shenvalee. The event is beneficial for the business owners of the town and a time in which local merchants and representatives from our town businesses come together as one. I also would like to acknowledge the New Market Area Chamber of Commerce, New Market Rotary, New Market Fire Hall Staff, American Legion Post 166 and the many others who dedicated their time and talents to make the Bingo event held on March 18, 2017 a success! The event was held to offset the expense of the annual fireworks display held here in our Town. No matter how large or small, your time and energy played an important role in the event. Many thanks to those who supported and worked during this endeavor! The Town is sponsoring the annual Easter Egg Hunt. Come out and join us on Saturday, April 8th, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. at the New Market Community Park! The Easter Bunny will be in attendance and there will eggs for hunting. Ages 0 to 10 are invited and must bring their own Easter basket to collect eggs filled with candy or prizes. We will have face painting, Easter tattoos and visits with the Easter Bunny. Come out rain or shine! National Volunteer Week is the week of April 23-29, 2017. The Town of New Market is hosting its annual Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast on April 29, 2017 from 8:00 until 10:00 a.m. The Town Council and I wish to thank all volunteers past and present of the community who have dedicated their time and service. All volunteers of the greater New Market community and their families are invited to come join us for this Free Pancake and Sausage Breakfast at the New Market Community Center on Saturday, April 29, 2017. Bring a friend and come join us! Thank you for all YOU do to make New Market a great place to be! Please stop by the town office and extend a warm welcome to Amber Dennison, Events and Marketing Director of New Market. We welcome Amber and look forward to working with her. I hope you enjoy the bright long days ahead of us with winter coming to an end. Take time to get out and enjoy the spring days upon us! Remember, those April showers DO bring us May flowers. Enjoy! Douglas C. Bradley Mayor of New Market SEASONAL LEAF AND GRASS REMOVAL Curbside removal service for leaf and grass and other organic yard debris begins Friday, April 7, 2017. Number 4 BEST WISHES TO STEVE BOWMAN The Town of New Market offers best wishes and congratulations to Steve Bowman in his retirement from the Town.
