The C ru sa de s, Re na issa n ce, an d Ref o rmati on
The Ba ckg ro un d:
After the fall of Rome, Europe was slow to recover. The feudal system established as a protection from invasions
would serve to last for approximately 1000 years. Due to various factors (which we will be looking at) Europe found
itself crawling out of the dark ages and into a new time - a time of rebirth, or Renaissance. What would emerge
would be a "world" of scientific, religious, and artistic discovery...
The Ta sk:
Working in groups of 4 you will be responsible for covering the three topics - in both written and visual form. Each
group member will be expected to have an outline of all of the information, and each group then will need to have
completed a mural* of the three topics. You can choose to either have a three-part mural (one picture per topic) or
one mural that artistically covers all three topics... your choice!
Mat e rial t o C o ve r (in outline and mural form) :
The Crusades Packet
Italy: Birthplace of the Renaissance (pp36-45)
The Northern Renaissance (pp46-53)

The Reformation Continues (pp61-69)
The T i mef ra me:
Day 1 - Research and outlining
Day 2 - Group discussion, exchange of information, and mural work
Day 3 - Finish murals, presentations (discussing BOTH the information and murals)
* The murals, similar to those of the time, will be completed without any script/writing. While roman numerals may be used,
no other writing should be in your final product! The task therefore is to tell your story without words...
