Profile - Jackson University

Jacksonville University is a private, independent university of
approximately 3, 700 students in Jacksonville - a city of almost one
million residents in Northeast Florida. Located on the banks of a
major river, the 198-acre campus is 10 minutes from downtown and
30 minutes from Atlantic Ocean beaches. The urban environment
provides opportunities for internships, cultural experiences,
professional sports, and recreation. Over 70 programs of study
include business, fine arts, sciences, nursing, the liberal arts, aviation,
and a new major in sustainability. The academic environment at
Jacksonville University centers on hands-on learning and personal
interaction between students and faculty. For instance, all degreeseeking undergraduates participate in an “engaged learning”
experience involving undergraduate research, an internship, service
learning, or study abroad. Several building and expansion projects
are currently underway on campus, and the recently opened Marine
Science Research Institute provides students with the opportunity to
study biological sciences immediately next door to the river.
Jacksonville University’s students participate in intramural and
varsity sports, social fraternities and sororities, cultural
organizations, and many other clubs and activities. The on-campus
housing includes traditional residence halls and upperclassman
student apartments. On-campus recreational opportunities include
weekend movies, an outdoor pool, sand volleyball courts, and a
fitness center. Also, the university provides weekend transportation
to local shopping centers and the beaches. The International Student
Association, representing students from all regions of the world,
organizes trips and social events.
