The A’s & B’s C’s & D’s of Medicare
Medicare is no longer a simple health insurance plan for seniors. Whether to enroll in
Part B, who covers the cost of drugs and what expenses will I have to pay are all
questions that should be given thorough consideration when choosing a Medicare
plan. Not to mention, what is that “doughnut hole” thing I keep hearing about? This

and does not cover. You will also hear about private insurance plans that can cover many of the
gaps that exist, and what advantages they might offer.

New Michigan Laws will Affect your Estate Plan
(Funeral Arrangements & Digital Assets)
In the last week of March, the Michigan legislature passed two new
laws that will impact your estate plan. The first law allows you to
name your funeral representative. Under the old law, the legal
authority to make decisions about funeral arrangements and the disposition of the body followed the law of intestacy. The priority went first to a spouse, if
any, and if none, then to the decedent’s descendents. This often led to conflict when there was more
than one descendant of the same priority. This also led to conflict when an individual was estranged
from a child yet that was the child that had the priority of the decision. A second spouse would have
priority over the decedent’s own children. Friends and significant others had no decision-making authority. Under the new law, it is possible to designate in writing the name of an individual that you
want to be your “Funeral Representative.” The designation of a funeral representative needs to be
in writing and appropriately witnessed or notarized.
A second law passed by the legislature identifies the right that your agent under a power of attorney
or personal representative of your estate has with regard to digital assets. Digital assets include
your email, social media accounts, movies and songs stored online, bitcoins and other financial files.
Gary Allen, Northville estate planning and elder law attorney, will be presenting a seminar on these
new laws and other new laws which could affect your federal estate tax, changes in laws affecting
property taxes on real estate transfers to your children, new income taxation on your IRA rollovers,
and new laws that may indicate married couples should terminate their existing trusts. Select day or
evening class.

Yankee Air Museum
The Willow Run Bomber Plant played a key role in what became known as
the “Arsenal of Democracy” during WWII. The story of the Yankee Air Museum begins in 1941 when Willow Run Airport was built by the Ford Motor
Company to serve as an airfield for the B-24 Bomber Plant. This was the
first aircraft manufacturing complex to use Ford’s automotive mass production technique, a leading
technological innovation of the time. There are also Vietnam War exhibits featuring a restored F-4
Phantom and UH-1 Huey helicopter. The Yankee Air Museum continues in its mission of “Honoring
