PASTOR ROD’S MESSAGE
Last year was hard! What will 2016 bring?
Wow, what a tough year! Consider with me the number of terrorist attacks here and around the world, including the beheading executions of Christians at the hands of ISIS. No wonder The Holy Spirit said
“perilous” times would come. But I believe it has as much to with the world situation as it does the “soul of a
people or nation. Consider some of the other notable issue that attack the fiber of our nations soul:
-The Supreme Court imposed a radical redefinition of marriage
-A man glorified for his courage because he put on a dress, modified his body, and changed his first name to
become the opposite of what God made him.
-Exposure that Planned Parenthood’s is in the baby body parts for profit business
-The most radical escalation of racial tension since the 1960’s and we could go on and on.
Even on the Homefront we’ve been wrestling with tough times, crying needs of all kinds. Including we counted about a dozen deaths associated with our church last year. Struggles, some normal and some extreme.
Fierce times! The Greek word means: violent, grievous, hard to bear, distressing. In Mt 8:28 the same word
refers to the demoniacs in the Gadarenes. One of them was named Legion. Some synonyms are: savage, evil,
bad, calamitous. Okay, if you’ve read this far you have the idea- tough times. The reality of the situation is
only half of the equation. We cannot smile and just say, “Let’s think happy thoughts- Akuna Matta.” That’s the
Liberal’s version of fatalism.
Christians on the other hand are to be …making the most of your time, because the days are evil. (Ephesians
5:16) The challenge for us is to not be ignorant of the evil, but in realizing it ask how can I redeem it? The
word is the prefix ex, like ex-odus, meaning out and the root word agora. The idea is to buy out or buy back,
to redeem something. It’s used of Jesus redemption of those who entrust their souls to Him.
How can you do that? How is God calling you to redeem the moments that you have left in these perilous
days? God is calling us to live radically as selfless servants of Jesus. He wants us all to live lives that matter.
Ponder as we enter this new year:
Do I study God’s Word daily and share it?
No matter who they are?
Do I pour my life out for others because
they are precious to Jesus?
Is integrity with what I believe seen in all that I do and say?

PASTOR DAREN’S MESSAGE
Today I buried a young woman who was murdered. The circumstances were horrific and the pain that was etched
on the crying eyes of those family members and friends will never be erased from my mind and heart. In the aftermath of
the service I got to pondering all the different funerals I have had the privilege of ministering at. Truth is – many of them
have been tragic: over doses, suicide, death from cirrhosis, cancer…the list can go on. I have come to the conclusion that
the need for Christ is profoundly more apparent than ever! Upon the impressions of mourning, I implore you to embrace the
ends of things. To look at one’s own life, to see if the life you live matters… to ask God if it has made a difference. Has the
life God has given you been fruitful? Have you been transformed into the likeness of Christ, ready to bear your cross and
do the greater things He said His followers would do? It will be painful, you will get hurt, you may even have parts of you
die in the process, but “the end is where we begin” (Thousand Foot Crutch)
The following is a devotional from Charles Spurgeon that I hope indelibly engraves upon you in the same manner the funerals have permanently marked my soul –
“Better is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof.” – Ecclesiastes 7:8
Look at David’s Lord and Master; see his beginning. He was despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows and
acquainted with grief. Would you see the end? He sits at his Father’s right hand, expecting until his enemies be
made his footstool. “As he is, so are we also in this world.” You must bear the cross, or you shall never wear the
crown; you must wade through the mire, or you shall never walk the golden pavement. Cheer up, then, poor Christian. “Better is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof.” See that creeping worm, how contemptible its appearance! It is the beginning of a thing. Mark that insect with gorgeous wings, playing in the sunbeams, sipping at the
flower bells, full of happiness and life; that is the end thereof. That caterpillar is yourself, until you are wrapped up in
the chrysalis of death; but when Christ shall appear you shall be like him, for you shall see him as he is. Be content
to be like him, a worm and no man, that like him you may be satisfied when you wake up in his likeness. That roughlooking diamond is put upon the wheel of the lapidary. He cuts it on all sides. It loses much-much that seemed costly
to itself. The king is crowned; the diadem is put upon the monarch’s head with trumpet’s joyful sound. A glittering ray
flashes from that coronet, and it beams from that very diamond which was just now so sorely vexed by the lapidary.
You may venture to compare yourself to such a diamond, for you are one of God’s people; and this is the time of the
cutting process. Let faith and patience have their perfect work, for in the day when the crown shall be set upon the
head of the King, Eternal, Immortal, Invisible, one ray of glory shall stream from you. “They shall be mine,” saith the
Lord, “in the day when I make up my jewels.” “Better is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof.”
The end of this year, the end of each funeral, the end of each life, the end of all time: they are all beginnings. The beginning of priority and spirituality. Take time to study God’s Word daily, share the experience…it may be the last time you get
to share the TRUTH with someone. It could be their end or it could be yours…so many people left in the wake of death
need to hear the TRUTH before the end is so near. You may just be part of a person’s end that ushers them into the beginning of a life that matters…
Go Forth, Live a life that Matters!

DEACON’S CORNER
The Mysterious Seed
God’s seed is like seed thrown on a field by a man who then goes to bed and forgets about it. The
seed sprouts and grows. He has no idea how it happens. The earth does it all without his help: first
a green stem of grass, then a bud and then the ripened grain. (Mark 4:26-29).
The mystery of God’s Kingdom can be seen in the parable of the sower. Mark tells a beautiful story
of how Kingdom fruit does not emerge fully mature. This mysterious Seed contains all that is necessary to produce fruit. It germinates, and we do not really know how the growth occurs- but it
grows and produces fruit by itself. We can cultivate, water and nourish, but we cannot make it
grow. The seed produces after its kind. Apple trees produce apples, and peach trees produce
peaches.
The source of Eternal Seed is not from earth, nor is its origins mortal but from One who is immortal by the ever-living word of God. Coming in seed form, Agape is required to mature, or be perfected, so that it can find expression and release. When the Kingdom Seed of Agape begins to grow, it
brings forth characteristics of the Kingdom- it produces God’s Agape as fruit after its kind.
God himself is Agape (J0hn 4:8). His love is covenantally faithful, unconditional, and self-giving.
Agape is God’s absolute by which He judges all things, and it is nature- His DNA, or His communicable attributes that are imparted to His own. The mysterious, Eternal Seed of Agape is ultimate reality. Agape will never go away because love never goes disappears. If love is the real thing, it will
stand, continue, and never disappear because God is Agape. In Paul’s well-known words in First Corinthians 13:13 “And so faith, hope, and Agape abide”

IMPORTANT INFORMATION!!
PEOPLE: People are precious and worth sacrifice.
AGAPE LOVE: Deep love requires great action.
Our church has determined that these are two of our
values. I’m not sure we expected God to give us such a
challenge so quickly, but He has!
Tori Colvin, a new member of our church who was
baptized this past year, is in need of a liver transplant.
Did you know that it is possible to donate a portion of your liver to another person? Yours will grow back and the recipient will grow a new healthy one from your donated portion in
about 4-8 weeks.
The criterion for donation is as follows:
Her blood type B or type O
Age 18-55
Not pregnant
Do not have to be a blood relative
Normal weight or able to lose weight
No major medical or psychiatric illnesses
No drug or alcohol dependence
If this is something that God is calling you to and you meet
the requirements above or if you just want more information
to help you determine if this might be something you wish to
pursue, please contact a member of the Health Ministry
Team for detailed information. Your questions will be answered and you will be given written materials, an educational video and contact numbers. Tori would be very willing to
speak with you.

3rd and 4th graders Auxano
This past quarter in the
3rd and 4th grade Sunday
School, our class put into
action what it means to
give this holiday season.
They were given the challenge to earn tickets worth
50 cents each to go toward a gift to be picked
out of the World Vision
Gift Catalog to send over
seas to a needy family or
community.
They learned
memory verses, recited
L to R: Ricky Smith, Micah Humes, Parker Schmidt, Lilly Oakes, Natalie Held and Noah
books of the
Barnett. Missing from photo: Wyatt Burchill, Brett Kania, Riley Zimmerman, Logan
Bible from
Hovis, Abby Kightlinger, Paige Porter, Dylann Dupont and Kera Hale
memory, and completed
take home papers to earn these tickets. In addition to each ticket earned they put a canned good aside
to be donated to a needy family in our own community.
They were very excited about this and did a wonderful job showing how much they cared for others.
They earned a total of $24.50 which the C.E. Board decided to match. So, we had a total of $49.00 to
work with.
They all decided to donate this money
toward a share of a home to be purchased for a single mother and her children. The food items were donated to
the local food bank.
We are so proud of each one of these kids. Thank
you for giving us the privilege to teach them.
Sincerely, Jen Shaffer and Cameron Barnett

Another year is upon us! So hard to believe! We
hope everyone had a Blessed Christmas!
We have more new books in the library! Elaine Christie has donated books in memory of Betty Shaffer.
It is Rumspringa’s Hope She also donated books in
memory of Jeannie Shearer. They are Katie and the
Mustang and It Will Be Okay. The two for Jeannie
are children’s books for all the help she did with Release Time. We appreciate this very much as we
have appreciated these ladies and the work they
have done for this church very much. Also Robin Kovschak donated a book in memory of Sandie
Schlosser. It is God’s Treasury of Virtues. It is a book of inspirational collections of stories,
quotes, hymns, scriptures and poems with the values of the fruit of the Spirit. Thank you so
much for this! These books will be on the counter in the library.
Also, since the church is showing the movie, War Room on Jan. 3, we have purchased the book
for the library. This also will be on the counter.
I am trying to build up the children’s books. I have added some. If any of you kids have any
Christian books that you think would be good to add to the library please let Michelle Wilmoth,
Elaine Christie, Katie Doubet or the office know. Thanks and please come and see what the library has to offer you!
Book of the Month
The Hole in Our Gospel
By Richard Stearns
The author is the president of World Vision US. This should tell you
right off that this book is most likely about missions! He came from a
rough start. His parents divorced. His dad was an alcoholic, something he
swore he would never become. He was top of his class in high school and
made it into Cornell University in Syracuse, NY. He was self-reliant and as far away from
Christian as anyone could be! He had a Christian roommate in college and they argued about
things. He could not understand how Someone could rise from the dead! He said he thinks his
roommate pretty much gave up on him! Then he went on a blind date with a Christian who told
him, “God loves you and has a wonderful plan for your life!”
This book is not about Richard Stearns but if you want to see what happens to this blind date
and the plans for his life you will have to read it!
Is our faith just about going to church studying the Bible and avoiding the most serious sins –
or does God expect more? Have we embraced the whole gospel or a gospel with a hole in it?
