the end of the year. It will be here before we
know it!
SCIENCE/Mrs. Pryor
The end of the school year is almost here. Remember that school goes until the very last
day so keep studying and working hard until
the end!
We are almost done learning everything. This nine weeks we are covering chapters 8 and 9. The final round of ISTEP occurs
this nine weeks and will be April 18-21. After
the ISTEP exam we will be completing a project about biomes.
SOCIAL STUDIES/Mr. Sullivan
________________________
ENGLISH/Mrs. Wiley
Where has the time gone? There are less
than 30 days left in our school year. We are
ending up with a review for ISTEP, and then
continuing to work on our writing skills. We
are working on an Informative evidence-based
essay and will continue to do additional writing
assignments. We are also continuing to add to
our vocabulary skills with our Wordly Wise
books and quizzes on Fridays. Students are encouraged to continue to put in hard work until
To wrap-up the year, social
studies is crossing the ocean like Columbus
did in 1492! The Age of Exploration is upon us here in the 6th grade as we study and
“debate” the significance of various explorers (Drake, Magellan, de Leon) and conquistadors (Cortes, Pizarro). The class will
stay in Latin America and research the amazing Mesoamerican civilizations (Maya, Aztec,
Incas…oh my!) Let us not forgot about the
mother civilization…the OLMECS!
The class will journey across the Atlantic to re-visit the vast changes, the growth,
the “re-birth” of learning in Europe…the age
of the RENAISSANCE!!! From art and literature to changes in thoughts in religions…hello
REFORMATION…Europe is trailblazing a
path toward the modern age and REVOLUTUONS!!! (Industrial, Scientific, Agricultural, French, and American).
The class closes with a project in early
May in which the students get to choose a topic that they loved from class. Working in a
group, they will construct, create, and present
their topic and its significance on our world
today!
Thanks for another amazing year at Tri
-West!
MATH/Ms. Bondy
Area, volume, and nets, oh my! We are
digging deep into geometry this last nine
weeks of school. 2D and 3D figures will be
explored with finding and calculating measurements. We will focus on the common 2D
and 3D shapes, but also consider complex
shapes. A geometry project, “Geo City” will
be completed over the course of a week. We
are spending some time to review material
from the entire year as the concepts are continuing to show up in work we are currently
doing. This review will be helpful as “testing
time” has arrived. We will round out the year
with data and statistics work.
READING/Mrs. Jensen
Catch the Reading Buzz!
The reading goal is for students to be
more effective & enthusiastic readers!
 Check your child’s Reading Folder for
Weekly Averages and gr aded assignments. Reread and review problem areas.
 Study vocabulary! Students must know
Literary Terms 1-5. These will be tested and retested for retention throughout
the year. Review Lists 1-4. Students will
be responsible for knowing these words!
 Biography Book Reports & Projects are
due Thursday, May 12th! Check your
child’s reading folder or Schoology for the
Book Report & Project Requirement
Sheet. Students may stay after school to
type, if necessary, until 4:00 PM, with a
parent note of permission.
 Extra credit is also due Thursday, May

 Remember...BOYD assignments can
only be completed after reading the content given in class.
nation of Physical Education and the traditional “Health” class, where we will cover topics
such as: fitness, nutrition, functions of the
body, and other related material. In P.E. we
will concentrate on individual effort, goalsetting and improvement for our 10 areas of
fitness, as well as, a multitude of teambuilding/cooperation activities to better improve our communication skills and ability to
work with a group. After being away for a
semester, I’m elated to be back and starting
the new year with this great bunch of students.
ART/Ms. Burns
During the sixth grade art class, students will be exploring a wide range of media
and techniques. We will be creating art with
an emphasis on self-expression and craftsmanship. Inspiring many of our projects will be
our research of ancient art from the Stone Age
through the Roman Empire. This will be a valuable opportunity for students to gain an appreciation for art in the world around us, as
well as refine their own artistic skills.
TECHNOLOGY/Mr. Essex
This course provides students with an
introduction to technology. It is intended that
the student will relate the content presented in
this class to the lessons of core classes as technology is the application of mathematic and
scientific principles. Students will explore
various areas such as manufacturing, transportation, construction, and communication
through different projects. Students will cover
course vocabulary that relates to overall curriculum and specific projects as well.
Content presented is teacher led. Projects are
challenging hands on activities in which students must design or construct something that
solves a problem that is presented to
them. Students will take an end of course assessment, and a vocabulary post assessment
covering material presented over the nine
weeks.
HEALTH & WELLNESS/Mr. Taylor
Hello again! My name is Mr. Taylor
and I’m the Health & Wellness teacher. This
is a 12 week course that consists of a combi-
CHOIR/Mrs. Kurihara
Choir students are busy preparing for the
TWMS Fine Arts Night. The night includes an
Art show and Concert provided by our talented
art, choir and band students. Hope to see you
May 2 @ 7:00 as our ‘Agents of Change’ surprise and entertain you!
BAND/Ms. Hewitt
We are over half way through our band
method book and will be starting solo and ensemble work soon! The students choose to play
a solo for the class, or work in a small ensemble
and play for the class. We also have been doing
Minute Music. These are timed tests that we do
on Fridays to see how fast and accurate we can
name notes. We track our progress on stickers
charts in the band room. We will also be starting
preparation for the middle school fine arts night
in May. This year our theme will be the school
theme, “Agents of Change”. We are looking for
music that represents agents and music that represents change.
LIBRARY/Mrs. Fay
From the Library, students in the 6th grade are
reading a biography of their choice and working
on a report for Reading class. They will be taking a short course on Internet Searching through
their Language Arts class soon.
Students in the 7th Grade have been reading towards a goal of 20 books for the school
year. They earn a karate belt for their mascot
for every 5 books they read. Everyone should
be in Stage 3 and wearing a green belt on their
way to a black belt goal! 23 readers have
achieved this goal and dozens are on
track! Check their progress on the bulletin
board in the Media Center during Student Led
Conferences May 9. Keep encouraging your
child to put down their controllers and pick up a
book!
All library books need to be turned back to the
library, or fees paid, by May 16th so that the entire collection can be inventoried.
I am calling on any BoxTops for Education donations you may have to be turned in during
these next 5 weeks! We are competing by
PRIDEs to win a catered breakfast.
We are excited to see what books the Scholastic Book Fair will bring this Fall! Hopefully
the collection will include the nominees for the
next Y oung Hoosier Book A ward. Our fair is
scheduled to be here in September! As in the
past, volunteers will be needed to operate the
Fair. I hope you can help us! Proceeds from
the Book Fair are used to stock the Library
shelves.
