SUMMARY:
Families with school age children are serviced by two school districts: Beauregard Parish and Vernon Parish. The districts
educate children PK-12th grades. Both districts provide LA-4, the state preschool program. The majority of military students attend school in
Vernon Parish. Military students comprise approximately 33% of the district’s enrollment. Beauregard Parish is approximately 15 miles
from the installation. Military students in Beauregard Parish comprise approximately 11% of the district’s enrollment.
There are two schools located on the installation: North Polk and South Polk Elementary, grades PK-4, which are governed by the Local Education Agency, Vernon Parish School Board. Students in grades 5th-12th are bused off the installation to schools either in the Pickering bus
zone or Leesville bus zone. Although Vernon Parish has open-enrollment and students can attend any school with approval, transportation
is only provided if your residence is in the proper bus zone. School Support Services or the local school district’s central service office can
provide information on bus zones and school enrollment.
