Manage the day to day operations of the Department’s Office of Faculty and Academic Affairs, which oversees all aspects of tenure-track and tenured faculty recruitment, review, and
promotion, in addition to all HSCRB faculty HR matters
Negotiate, draft, review and supervise execution of highly confidential faculty appointment and
compensation packages, in close collaboration with the Office of Faculty Development (FAS)
and the Office of the Dean of Science (FAS) and analogous offices in the HMS, Harvard
affiliated hospitals, and the Offices of President and Provost (OPP)
Manage and staff bimonthly faculty meetings and all faculty subcommittee activities, develop
agendas, and manage pre- and post-meeting communications and execute follow-up for Executive
Director, Faculty committee chairs, and Faculty Co-Chairs
Directly advise faculty on personnel/HR related issues, including dispute management and
mediation, where necessary
Draft communications for Executive Director and Faculty Co-Chairs, including letters of
nomination and support for awards and sponsored funding opportunities
Work with faculty and administrators across the University, including the FAS, HMS, Provost’s Office, and the Harvard affiliated hospitals and centers, to facilitate smooth communication and
resolution of all faculty related matters
Academic and Research Affairs Responsibilities:
Oversee all research and academic appointments in the Department, including annual
reappointments, visa sponsorship and renewal, monthly payroll, benefits and leaves, and other
HR related matters as they arise
Work with Executive Director and Faculty Co-Chairs to create, coordinate, and implement new
academic and research policies and procedures to address the challenges of a cross-school
department. Serve as Department lead in understanding differences between FAS/HMS policies
and negotiating consensus on behalf of faculty and academic/research appointees conducting
research across the FAS, HMS, and Harvard-affiliated hospitals
Train, supervise, and coordinate the workflow of the Appointments Coordinator, including the
ongoing development of online onboarding tools and training workshops/bootcamps for HSCRB
faculty and staff
Work with Appointments Coordinator to train faculty assistants on academic policies, research
appointments, visa sponsorship, benefits and leaves, and provide orientation for all new academic
and research appointees
Develop and maintain Faculty and Academic Affairs section of Department website
Financial Administration Responsibilities:
Oversee Office of Faculty and Academic Affairs budget, which includes funds allocated for the
recruitment, retention, and promotion of tenure-track and tenured faculty
Manage faculty and academic/research appointee salaries, FTE allocation, monthly payroll, late
reimbursements, and additional pay actions
Significant experience with Harvard financial and human resources systems, including Aries,
Asperin, Aspire, Crew, GMAS, and Peoplesoft
Knowledge of pre- and post-award sponsored research management, including graduate student
and postdoctoral fellowships
Event Planning Responsibilities:
Plan and supervise full execution of all faculty-sponsored events, including faculty recruitment
