Minnesota wins the 2015 Big Ten Tournament Championship
GAME NOTES
TOURNAMENT
 Adam Wilcox was named the most outstanding player of the tournament. Wilcox made
39 saves Friday night, in a 3-0, shutout win over Ohio State. The junior then made 24
saves in a 4-1 victory against Michigan in the championship game.
 Three Golden Gophers made the All-Tournament Team, Travis Boyd, Adam Wilcox and
Mike Reilly. Boyd had three goals and an assist in the tournament.
 Two Wolverines made the All-Tournament Team, Zach Hyman and Michael Downing.
Hyman led the tournament in scoring with five points, while Downing scored the opening
goal in a 4-1 win over Michigan State in the tournament semifinals.
SERIES
 Minnesota now leads the season series 3-2-0 against Michigan. The Golden Gophers
were swept by the Wolverines Jan. 9-10, 2015 in Ann Arbor but outscored Michigan, 8-2
Feb. 13-14, 2015 in Minneapolis.
 The Golden Gophers improve their all-time record against the Wolverines to 134-120-14.
 With the win, Minnesota improved to 8-4-2 against Michigan in postseason play.
 Minnesota improves their neutral site record vs. Michigan to 7-10-0.
 With the win, the Golden Gophers tied the all-time series against the Wolverines at Joe
Louis Arena, 1-1. The only other time the teams have met at Joe Louis Arena was on
Nov. 29, 1996 in the College Hockey Showcase. The Wolverines won that matchup, 4-3
in overtime.
MINNESOTA
 With the win, Minnesota earned an automatic qualifying bid to the NCAA tournament and
will be making their 36th appearance in school history.
 Don Lucia has now coached his teams to four conference tournament titles.
 Adam Wilcox made 24 saves to earn his 22nd win of the season and 73rd career win,
tying Robb Stauber for third all-time at Minnesota. Wilcox improved his all-time record
against the Wolverines to 6-1-0.
 Travis Boyd scored on the power-play, 2:30 into the second period to give the Golden
Gophers a 1-0 lead.
 With the goal, Travis Boyd added to his Big Ten best, 10 power play goals. Boyd also
tied St. Cloud State’s Jonny Brodzinski for the second most power-play goals in the
NCAA.
 Minnesota improved to 18-5-2 when scoring a power-play goal.
 The Golden Gophers continue to boast the nation’s best power-play, 40-for-142.
 Minnesota has now tallied a power-play goal in 12 of its last 17 games.



Kyle Rau tied the game 2-2, 10:34 into the second period. This was Rau’s second point
of the night after assisting on the Golden Gophers first goal. Rau now has a team
leading 20 goals on the season. This goal was Rau’s ninth neutral ice goal of his career,
the most among current Golden Gophers.
Minnesota is 82-15-8 all-time when Rau tallies a point and 41-4-0 when he records
multiple points in a game.
Rau’s goal was his sixth all-time goal against the Wolverines; the most among current
Golden Gophers.
Hudson Fasching assisted on the Rau power-play goal and now has six assists all-time
against the Wolverines; the most among current Golden Gophers.
Leon Bristedt added two assists in the contest and now has 13 on the season. Bristedt
continues to lead all Minnesota freshmen with 19 points.
Justin Kloos scored the game-winning goal for Minnesota, 9:29 into the third period. The
goal was the Golden Gophers third power-play goal of the night and Kloos’s seventh
power-play goal of the season.
With the goal, Kloos now has four game-winning goals this season. The last time Kloos
scored a game-winner was on Feb. 20, 2015 in a 2-1 win at Penn State.
Kloose now has three goals and six points in the last five games.
Travis Boyd added an empty-netter with 22 seconds left in the third period to give
Minnesota the 4-2 lead. This was Boyd’s 18th of the season and 31st of his career.
This was Boyd’s team best sixth multiple-goal game this season. The last time Boyd
scored two goals was on Feb. 21, 2015 in a 4-3, overtime loss at Penn State.
The Golden Gophers are now 4-2-0 when Boyd scores multiple goals.
The Golden Gophers improved to 4-4-2 when tied after one period. The game was
scoreless after one period of play.
Minnesota is now 2-3-0 when tied after two periods. The game was tied, 2-2 after two
periods of play.
Minnesota outshot Michigan 32-26, and is now 18-4-1 when outshooting its opponents.
The Golden Gophers improve to 10-8-2 when allowing a power-play goal. Michigan
scored on the power-play twice in the second period.
Minnesota improves to 9-8-2 in games following a win. Minnesota defeated Ohio State
3-0 in the Big Ten Tournament semifinals.
The Golden Gophers are now 5-1 in their last six games.
Minnesota improves its neutral site record this season to 3-2-0.
MICHIGAN
 With the loss, Steve Racine is now 7-2-0 all-time in postseason play and 2-1 in the Big
Ten Tournament.
 Michigan gave up a season-high 20 first period shots. The Wolverines gave up 17, in a
2-1 win against Michigan Tech on Dec. 17, 2015, at Joe Louis Arena for their previous
high.
 Zach Hyman tied the game with a power-play goal, 3:56 into the second period. The
goal was his fifth against Minnesota; the most among current Wolverines. Hyman leads
the team and the Big Ten conference with 54 points.
 The power-play goal was the Wolverines second of the game and Hyman’s fourth of the
season.
 Michigan fell to 15-2-0 when Hyman scores a goal.
 Alex Kile gave the Wolverines a 2-1 lead on the power-play, 6:14 into the second period.
The goal was Kile’s 13th of the season and seventh power-play goal of the year.









With the goal, Kile now has three points in his last two games. Kile had a goal and an
assist in the Big Ten Tournament semifinal game against Michigan State on Mar. 20,
2015.
Michigan fell to 10-2-0 when Kile scores a goal.
Hyman assisted on the second Wolverine goal giving him his fifth multiple-point game of
the season.
Michigan is now 4-3-0 when tied after one period. The game was scoreless at the end of
the first period.
Michigan outshot Minnesota, 10-5 in the second period after being outshot, 20-7 in the
opening frame.
Michigan is now 4-4-0 when tied after two periods of play. The game was 2-2 at the end
of the second period.
The Wolverines fell to 7-7-0 when allowing a power-play goal. Minnesota scored two
power-play goals in the game.
Michigan is now 7-12-0 when wearing blue jerseys. They are 15-3-0 when wearing,
white, maize or alternate jerseys.
The Wolverines dropped to 2-4 when the margin of victory is two goals or greater and 612-0 when their opponent scores first. Minnesota opened the scoring 2:30 into the
second period.
