drums, plus clarinet/saxophone and trombone/trumpet.

into more modern sounds, with influences including Errol Garner, Art Tatum,
Oscar Peterson and Louis Armstrong.
and Djangologie
with Mick Shoulder on bass, Emma Fisk on
violin, James Birkett and Giles Strong on guitars.
What marks Djangologie out as something special
is the way they take the original spirit of the hot club
music and breathe new life into it., maintaining the
swinging spirit of the great Reinhardt-Grappelli
ensembles. All four members share a detailed understanding of the gypsy jazz
tradition, coupled with a broader appreciation of the developments in jazz throughout
the 20th century. Played with virtuoso brio by four of the finest exponents of the
style, the essential commitment to music rooted in the sound of Django Reinhardt

a family of musicians, Cauvin started learning the guitar with his father at five. After
brilliant studies at the Bordeaux and Paris conservatories he began entering
international competitions. At the age of 20 he was and remains the only guitarist in
the world to have won 13 international first prizes, and the only guitarist to have won
36 prizes in major international guitar competitions, all between 2001 and 2006. This
accomplishment at such a young age was the trigger of his “endless tour”, which now

reflects, through Frank Bridge, an admiration for the English music of the early
twentieth century, which has from the outset formed an important part of the group’s
varied repertoire, represented by their hugely successful Frank Bridge recordings.
The ensemble’s first recording was of works by Frank Bridge, released to glowing
Reviews, and the release of the second disc in their survey of Bridge's early works was
again met with plaudits and was shortlisted for the Gramophone Chamber Music
Award 2011. Their most recent releases have been a Schumann recording and a
collection of works by Fauré - both have received excellent reviews.
