Crow’s Nest LIMERICK CONTEST
2012 St. Patrick’s Limerick Contest Winners
First Place - $100 Crow’s Nest Gift Certificate
To write a limerick, the first, second and fifth lines should include 3
major ‘beats,’ and rhyme with one another. Lines three and four should
contain two ‘beats’ and also rhyme with one another. And, of course,
the key to a memorable limerick is that it must be outrageously witty.
Try your hand at composing an original limerick, but please try to keep
it clean... as these will be read in mixed company on
Saturday, March 17th, in the Tavern.
Top entries (judged by the Crow’s Nest crew) will be read aloud and
voted on by the lively crowd in the Tavern after 9pm on March 17th.
R P M will entertain and preside over the judging.
An Irish Sing-A-Long will continue through the night.
Limerick example:
There was a place none like the rest,
Whose food, it was always the best,
For boats, it was ready
Where it sat on the Jetty
And it’s name, it was called the Crow’s
Nest!

I’m a crotchety, elderly dame.
Yes, I’m dear, half-blind and quite lame.
But give me “high five”,
I’m still licensed to drive
Banging bumpers of friends with the same!
Cathy Hinkley Venice, FL
2nd – 5th place - $25 Crow’s Nest Gift Certificates
So, the wife says to me late one night
“It’s crazy how much that we fight”
So I said to her,
Though she may not confer,
“That’s the first time THIS YEAR you’ve been right!”
Mike Balcom
Millbury, MA
There once was a girl from St. Paul
who wore a newspaper dress to the ball
Her dress caught on fire
and burned her entire
Front and back pages, sports section and all
Virginia Grand Venice, FL
When Florida calls they retire
for work there is no more desire
They party and play
Go golfing each day
And pray it’s not soon they EXPIRE

My new car, an electric Volt,
Leaks power to the driver’s seat bolt.
But I can’t object,
‘Cuz it leaves me erect
When it sparks with a helluva jolt!
