Artisan Apron
By Joanne Banko
Apron Construction
Use the apron pattern instructions, along with the
pattern modifications listed at the beginning of
these instructions as a basic guide for sewing the
apron.
Stitch along center of rickrack using a stitch that
moves from the center, and then to the left and
right.
Joanne's Tip
The Artisan apron includes a number of delightful
design details. With added embroidery the flow
of construction is just a bit different. The basic
formula for creating the apron is simply a matter of
embroidering the pockets, sewing the various units
together, and then assembling the apron.
Add the following decorative elements during
construction:
Before attaching to apron, add rows of decorative
candlewick stitching and rickrack trim to center
of Waist Strip C and Apron Top Contrast Strip I,
using examples below as a guide:
Stitch a row of candlewick stitches on each side of
the rickrack trim.
When preparing the zipper/hand pocket section,
add decorative candlewick stitching along pocket
dividing lines on embroidered piece “M” while it is
still a single layer of fabric.

Next, sew embroidered piece “M” to matching
lining piece, creating the lined pocket by stitching
the ½” seam at the top. Flip lining to the back
side and press top edge. Stitch along each side of
the candlewick decorative stitches when attaching
completed pocket to fabric piece “K.”
Continue assembly and complete the apron
following the instructions, remembering to insert
the two separate waist ties at the waistline before
lining apron.
Attach the bib pocket when you reach the section
where instruction call for added embroidery, just
before the final section on assembly. Prepare
pocket for sewing by turning right side out. Neatly
tuck in the lower, un-stitched seam allowance and
press flat. Center pocket on main apron piece and
topstitch in place, closing bottom opening in the
process.
Add rickrack trim around lower pocket as the last
step. You are finished! Enjoy!
