Indoor and outdoor celebrations become joyous events in our serene, natural environment. Our award winning green building has the warm ambiance of the northwoods, just 15 minutes north of Milwaukee. We offer several outdoor ceremony sites, including the pavilion overlooking Lake Michigan and the east veranda of the main building. Once a farm for the Schlitz Brewery draft horses, Schlitz Audubon Nature Center is Milwaukee’s comprehensive nature center. We offer six miles of trails that take visitors through 185 unique acres of forests, wetlands, restored prairies, ravines, bluffs and a shoreline. You will see evidence of our active and progressive management of the land, restoring habitats unique to our region and reclaiming our bountiful natural history. Conveniently located just north of the city on Lake Michigan, we provide the full experience of nature throughout all seasons. With leading experiential, environmental education for people of all ages, Schlitz Audubon is both a destination for adventure and an oasis from the busyness of life. Schlitz Audubon is a designated Important Bird Area because of the habitat provided by the lake for certain waterfowl. We are also a birding hot spot because of our location within a migratory flyway. Spruce logs harvested from the Center’s grounds distinguish this space. The rental of the Great Hall also includes the use of the Cupola, the Hearth Room with an additional fireplace, and the outdoor Veranda. The capacity of the Great Hall is 225. The pavilion, the ravine deck, and the adjoining lawn can accommodate up to 225 guests. Chairs and tenting can be rented for an additional fee. Available May through October. 7 AUDITORIUM The Auditorium is a large carpeted room which may be used for indoor wedding ceremonies or cocktail hours. The room has an LCD projector, DVD, and a large screen for digital presentations. The Auditorium has chairs for 190 guests, a low stage, a podium, Wi-Fi and a great sound system. Talk to us about featuring one or more of our stunning raptors at your event. Our birds and will make a lasting impression leavingyour guests talking about a long time afterwards. For weddings they add that additional activity which often bridges the period between the end of the ceremony and the reception. It allows guests to come together during this happy time to watch and take part in one of our unique raptor programs. Our raptor programs can be set in a ‘meet and greet’ format or a more formal presentation. Formal Programs include: Night Owls | $500 for 1 hour Meet & Greet This program features our native Wisconsin owls, each with special adaptations that help them survive in the wild. The audience will have the opportunity to view live owls, touch artifacts, and hear owl calls. Beaks & Talons | $500 for 1 hour Meet & Greet Observe falcons, hawks, and owls as their handlers take them though the audience. Join us in comparing these feathered creatures up close, while exploring their unique adaptations. Eagle & Friends | $600 for 1 hour Meet & Greet Our dynamic Bald Eagle and other native raptors are the stars of our Center and are guaranteed to wow any crowd. 11 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS What time can my wedding ceremony or reception begin? Indoor spaces may be used starting at 5:30pm. Outdoor ceremonies may start at 5:00pm for a full wedding rental. Daytime ceremonies are available from 9:00am - 2:00pm on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. What does the rental fee include? Your rental fee includes the use of the room(s) and/or ceremony location during your rental time slot, a Schlitz Audubon Nature Center manager for your event, daytime hiking trail use, photography locations, and parking. We are tax exempt. Do I have to use one of the caterers from your approved list? Yes, you must select a caterer from our list. Who supplies the bar service? The Center supplies and services all bars. All bars must be hosted. What do the caterers provide and do I contact them directly? You contact the caterers directly for pricing information and will also arrange for rental of tables, chairs, linens and other equipment. You may select the vendor of your choice for the cake/dessert. How many guests may I invite? That depends on your set-up and your chosen location or room. Our Great Hall maximum is 225 people seated. Our outdoor ceremony location can accommodate 225 guests. The inclement weather plan can accommodate 170 guests. May I have music at my event? Yes, you may hire a band or D.J. You may also use our sound system to play CDs or an iPod. What part of the facility is available for my guests? Daytime guests may use the Pavilion or Auditorium. Evening guests may use the Great Hall, Hearth Room, Veranda, Auditorium and Pavilion. Where are my guests allowed to park & how many spaces are available? Parking is free. We have 120 parking spots. During evening events, guests may also park along the entrance road. What time may I access the room(s)? For weekend evening events, materials may be dropped off at our loading dock beginning at noon on the day of your event. Indoor set-up may begin approximately 2 hours before evening events. Call for daytime event details. How may I take a tour and/or book a date for my event? All rental events are scheduled with our Rental Coordinator.
