withsocialvariablessuchthatolderpar�cipants,andthosewitha
collegedegreemadetheconsonantambisyllabicmoreo�enthan
youngeronesandthosewithoutacollegedegree.Theideathata
stressedlaxvowelinthefirstsyllablecondi�onsboththe
ambisyllabicityoftheconsonantanditsgeminatespellingisnot
supportedsincethetwoonlycoincidein75%ofthecases.
