Q. - What is a double dial clock?
A . - A double dial clock has a face on both sides of the clock
housing. They are typically wall or ceiling mounted into a
4 × 4 outlet box in hallways so that time can be viewed from
either direction.
If your double dial clocks don’t have the American Time logo,
we do not have a direct replacement that will fit in your existing
double dial bracket. You may either send the defective clock to
us for repair or replace it with a complete new American Time
double dial unit.
Q. - How do I know what type of clocks I have?
A. - Your clocks should have the original manufacturer and model
number. The most common place to find this information is a sticker
on the back of the clock. If that information is not on the clock, call
our Clock Experts for help.
For the past 16 years, American Time has been hosting Clock School, a one
day seminar that offers troubleshooting techniques for centralized clock
systems. Participants are given classroom instruction and then work handson to learn repair procedures for their specific system wall clocks.

Glossary of Clock and Timekeeping Terms
12-Hour Correction: The signal from the master clock is sent every 12 hours to correct the hour hand. It's longer in duration than the hourly correction, and
usually occurs between the hours of 5:00 and 6:00, both AM and PM.
Atomic Clock: A clock with an internal atomic oscillator. Radio controlled clocks are often referred to as Atomic Clocks.
Backbox: Metal enclosure usually sunk into the wall, housing the movement of a flush mount wall clock.
Bezel: The main housing or frame of the clock. Typically, it is round or square and is made of wood, metal or plastic. Sometimes referred to as the clock case.
Crystal: The lens of the clock used to protect the dial and hands.
Dial: The visible face of the clock with marked graduations for reference to the hands for measuring the progression of time. Sometimes referred to as the clock face.
Double Dial: A clock that has a face on both sides of the clock housing. They are typically wall or ceiling mounted into a 4 x 4 outlet box in hallways so that time
can be viewed from either direction.
Dust Cover: A cover over the clock movement to protect it from excessive dust build-up.
Electrical Box: Metal or plastic enclosure usually sunk into a wall that houses electrical wires.
Flush⁄Semi-Flush Mount: A clock that has the movement mounted inside a backbox to give the clock a low profile look.
GPS (Global Positioning System): Wireless clock systems receive the time signal from GPS satellites for precise timekeeping.
Hourly Correction: The signal from the master clock is sent every hour to correct the minute hand and, where applicable, the sweep second hand.
Impulse: Secondary clocks that receive a DC pulse from a master clock to keep on time. The pulse is received every minute.
Motor: Runs the clock movement. Usually at 120vac or 24vac.
Movement (Motor Movement): A unit consisting of a clock motor and gear box. May also have a correction coil.
NEMA: National Electrical Manufacturers Association. An organization that provides a forum for the standardization of electrical equipment, enabling consumers
to select from a range of safe, effective and compatible electrical products.
NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology): Provides a reliable, internationally recognized standard of precise time and frequency information
used by consumers, companies, air traffic control systems, space exploration participants, scientists and ship navigators all over the United States.
Surface Mount: A clock that has a movement that does not protrude past the bezel (clock case) and mounts flat against the wall (no backbox) giving a deeper profile.
Sweep Second Hand: The second hand of the clock. Also known as a “sweep” or “sweep hand.”
Synchronous: Power is continuously furnished to the clock run motor.
System Clock: A clock that receives its power from a master clock for both run and correction. It is directly wired to the master clock.
WWVB: A NIST Radio Station located near Ft. Collins, CO. that broadcasts time and frequency signals at 60KHz. The broadcast is picked up by radio controlled
clocks allowing the clock’s movement to synchronize with the broadcasted time.

Popular Clock Dial Styles
American Time has many dial styles to choose from for molded plastic, wood, aluminum and steel case clocks. The
part number designates the dial style at the end of the 10 digit part number. For example, a clock with the part number
E56BADD304 has the 04 dial style. The 04 and 01 dial styles have traditionally been our most popular dials since 1980.
The white numerals on a black dial are considered high contrast for the vision-impaired. The 24-hour dial styles are used in
military, industrial and health care applications. If you have any questions on dials, please don't hesitate to contact the Clock

Return Guidelines
We stand behind our high-quality, precise products, so please follow these guidelines if for any reason you are dissatisfied with
your product.
In order to guarantee prompt service, you must call Customer Service at 800-328-8996 within 30 days of the invoice date for a
Return Authorization (RA) number. You must get the RA number prior to returning your product to American Time.
The package containing your returned product must also contain your company name and address, as well as a contact name,
telephone number and email address. If the package does not have a RA number on the outside of the package, it will be
returned unopened.

Please note: Items returned within the first 60 days must be in the original packaging and in saleable condition or a minimum 25%
restocking fee will be applied. All items returned after 60 days from the original invoice date will be subject to a minimum 25%
restocking fee. Return shipping charges are the customer's responsibility.
Drop ship orders may be subject to vendor restocking fees.
Certain products and large quantities may be considered non-returnable or subject to additional restocking fees. Customers will be
notified of this when placing the order.
Repairs
A Repair Technician will evaluate all clocks returned for repair. If no problem is found, each clock will be subject to a $25.00
evaluation charge.
Custom Items
Personalized, custom color or built-to-order items are made especially for you and cannot be returned. To eliminate any issues, our
experienced staff will help you with your custom product selection and ask you to approve it prior to purchase. For example, we will
electronically send you your personalized logo dial style and request your approval before we begin manufacturing it.
Warranty Return
If difficulty develops with a product under warranty, American Time will, at our discretion, repair or replace your purchase. Use the
return guidelines stated above to return your product for warranty work. This warranty does not cover labor and transportation costs
for removal and/or installation of the unit for repair.
Any repair, adjustment or modification to the product, other than by American Time, voids the warranty.
