Dear Parents, We are nearing the end of our Hot and Cold unit in science. Our final project will be an at home project due: Tuesday, December 10, 2013. Each child is to design a “Keep It Cool” device. This purpose of this device is to keep an ice cube frozen for the longest length of time possible. The children are to use materials found at home to make “insulators” for an ice cube. Please do not go out and buy material for this project. There must be a way for us to put an ice cube into the insulator and be able to check on the ice cube periodically throughout the day. You do not need to send an ice cube from home, as we will be carrying out this experiment at school. The children are to make their own insulators so please do not send already made or store bought thermoses for this project. We have discussed insulating materials and conducted an experiment at school to learn about good vs. poor insulators. Please discuss this project with your child and help them gather materials, but remember your child will be asked to explain his or her own project. Please have your child bring their device and write up sheet on Tuesday, December 10, 2013 so that we can share the insulators with the class. Thank you for your support and I hope you and your child have fun with this project! Please contact me if you have any questions. Ms. Dez
