`Would you rather live in the Stone age or the Iron age?`

Dear Parents and Children,
our final enquiry of this year
is:
‘Would you rather live in
the Stone age or the Iron
age?’
English: We will start by looking at 2 texts called ‘Ug: Boy Genius of the Stone Age’ and ‘Pebble in my Pocket’. We will use these as
a stimulus for writing Adventure stories. We will also be looking at
‘Lila and the Secret of Rain’. This text will be used as a stimulus for
letter writing as the children will be writing to Lila.
Maths: With a focus still on mastery, the children will be learning more
about fractions, as well as finding out about the properties of a range of 2D
and 3D shapes. We will then be comparing lengths, weights and volumes as
well as investigating how a containers shape can effect it’s capacity. This will
then lead into our final area of study which is statistics—a unit in which we
will be displaying a range of data using bar charts, pictograms and tables.
The children will then interpret these images in order to answer questions
about the data collected.
Science: Our Science work this term will be incorporated into our enquiry question, focusing on The Stone Age. We will be looking closely at
different types of rock, investigating their different properties and finding
out how rocks are made in a very tasty way! We will then have a learn about
soil, what it is made up of and how it varies in different parts of a country.
We will carry out some investigations into the properties of soils and find out
what lies under our feet! We will be conducting lots of investigations and
exploring how to conduct a fair test.
Humanities: In Humanities this term we will be finding out about how life
changed between the Stone Age and the Iron Age. After we have found out why it is
called the Stone Age, we will be looking at how early man survived and how the
change from hunting and gathering to farming revolutionized their way of life. We
will then find out how a more settled life led to the establishing of forts and
eventually to the development of towns. We will also be finding out about Stonehenge and maybe even making models of it!
DT/Art: In Art and
DT this term we will be learning about cave circles and cave painting. We will look at examples of cave circles such as Stonehenge, followed by designing and making our own settlements. We will also explore examples of cave painting and write our own messages using
cave art.
Other Areas: In Qatar History we will be
looking at the concept of homeland and citizenship.
We will also learn about some important characteristics of the Qatari society.
In PSHE , we will be learning about what makes a
healthy diet as well as life style choices and looking
after our bodies.
