Among the most evocative sounds of early autumn are the voices of migratory geese, flying high overhead in a V-formation as they return from nesting in Canada and Alaska. For Sale: Heavy duty 6ft by 8 ft trailer. Made from Ford truck bed. 1 7/8” ball. Call Jerry at 636-227-6374 or 314-412-6374 (cell). 10/22 For Sale: 6’x16’ pontoon boat, fishing model, good condition, newer cover. Upholstery in excellent condition. Dual 82 lb. thrust motors. Contact Barry at 636 439-8730. Asking $2,400. 10/15 This phenomenon — a kind of synchronized, aerial tailgating — marks the flight of flocks of larger birds, like geese or pelicans, but isn’t seen in smaller birds like robins or sandpipers. For Sale: Brown leather sofa and 2 matching chairs with ottomans: $400, small dresser with detachable mirror $50, large wooden office desk $50, antique radio/record player console $50. 636-745-7860. Can send photos. 10/15 Most observers believe there is a straightforward reason for flying in a V. Each bird behind the leader is taking advantage of the lift of a corkscrew of air coming off the wing tips of the bird in front. This corkscrew updraft is called a tip vortex. Such efficiency enables the geese to save considerable energy during long flights. For Sale: Diamond jewelry wholesale prices: 14KY gold. Ring 1 carat channel set tapered baguettes; Pendant with 2 diamonds .6 carat, excellent color and clarity; Earrings .9 carat TW. 636-745-7860. Call for price and picture. 10/15 For Sale: Six oak chairs. Good condition. $25 each or six for $120. Can email photo. Call Karen at 314-660-3419. 10/8 The V-formation may also enhance birds’ ability to see and hear each other, thus avoiding mid-air collisions. So migrating birds that do form V-formations combine the benefits of aerial updrafts and communication. Wanted Wanted: Men’s Golf clubs - Right hand - Putter, Pitch, Sand or Lob Wedge, and 9-10 degree Driver in new or terrific shape only please. Call John 816-516-3040. 10/8 Small birds probably do not create enough of an updraft to help others in the flock and don’t fly in V-formation. -Excerpt from BirdNote.org Wanted: Women’s “classic” chest of drawers furniture in terrific condition - for high school daughter ready to move up to adult furniture.
