BUMBLEBEE CLASS WK BEG 3/5/16 This week in our class: Following the interest of the children, we are focusing our learning on the Stone Age. We will be finding out about some of the animals that would have lived during that era and about the tools the people used and what they ate. In literacy this week the children are researching and writing facts about prehistoric animals and how people lived. They are practising sentence skills and using the correct punctuation needed in a sentence and learning to edit and improve their sentences. In maths this week the year 1 children will be practising their mental addition and subtraction skills. They will be using number facts to add and subtract 1-digit numbers to/from 2-digit numbers. FS2 children will be learning to count in 2’s and 10’s. They will be counting hands, feet, fingers, toes and all sorts of objects that come in pairs and 10’s. They will be moving on to looking at odd and even numbers and how to recognise them. In art this week the children will be using a variety of media to create artwork of the Stone Age animals they have been finding out about. They will be making caves in our outdoor area and trying to make their own paintbrushes using sticks and natural resources as Stone Age people would have done. We are finding a lot of lost property left in school. Please check in the cloakroom area (inside the classroom) next to the boys toilet where we hang any clothes and other bits left in school. DO make sure your child’s clothes are clearly named, particularly as now the weather is getting warmer they tend to shed jumpers and as you can imagine it is v tricky for us to keep track of 27 identical jumpers/cardigans! PE will be on Thursday. Forest school will be on Wednesday as usual so please send in kit. Mrs Jackson will be teaching on Tuesday and Mrs Daddow on Wednesday-Friday. Questions to ask: Start of the week: Which animals lived in the Stone Age time? What does a sentence need? End of the week: Can you remember any facts about a woolly mammoth? Sabre tooth tiger? What did the Stone Age people eat? If your child wants to bring in any facts they have researched online or books they have on Stone Age living and/or animals then please send them in. Many thanks Jenny Jackson and Tamsin Daddow
