Teepee
A teepee is a coned shape tent that is made of animal skin or
bark from a tree. The Native Americans lived in teepees. In the
winter the teepees would give warmth and in the summer the
teepees stayed cool.
A teepee is put together with poles and ropes and held down by
pegs or stones. It could be put up or taken down very quickly
when a tribe decided to move.
Most teepees were not decorated. The teepees that were
decorated often had animal designs painted on them. Pictures of
war and hunting were also painted onto the teepees. Horse hair,
bear claws and buffalo tails were also used to decorate teepees.
Modern teepees are made from canvas.
