Dear colleague,
The JAPAN SKATING FEDERATION, has the honor and pleasure of organizing the 2002
WORLD FIGURE SKATING CHAMPIONSHIPS to be held in Nagano city, Japan, on 18 - 24
March, 2002.
The venue for the Championships is the “M-WAVE”, where the Speed Skating competition of
the 1998 NAGANO OLYMPIC WINTER GAMES was held. As you may be aware, the
“WHITE RING” is not longer used as an Ice Arena since 1998.
To assist you in your planning, please find enclosed the following attachments and application
forms for MEDIA ACCREDITATION, which you are kindly requested to fill in and return
completed and signed before the closing date.

(1) Only professional journalists and photographers will be accredited
(2) Each applicant requesting accreditation must fill in a form.
(3) Incomplete application will not be considered.
(4) Late application requests will only be considered if space is available.

Local and General information
(1) Locations of the “M-WAVE” (Competition Arena) and the “BIG HAT”(Practice Arena).
The “M-WAVE” is located in the eastern part of Nagano city, which is the terminal
station of Nagano Shinkansen (Bullet train) coming from Tokyo station. The “BIG HAT”
is to be used as the Practice Arena and it is located in the southeastern part of Nagano
City. Organizer will provide official free transportations for all accredited media
personnel between the Official Press Hotels and both arenas (event and practice). For
your arrival, it is recommended to take an express train from New Tokyo (Narita)
International Airport to Tokyo station approximately 1 hour, and take a bullet train from
Tokyo to Nagano approximately 1 hour 30 minutes.

(2) Entry visa
Nationals of some countries need an entry visa for Japan. Please consult your local travel
agent or your nearest Japanese Consulate.
(3) Time zone
Japan’s standard time is mostly ahead of other countries. Some examples are as follows,
European Standard Time: 9 hours behind Tokyo
US East Coast:
14 hours behind Tokyo
US West Coast:
17 hours behind Tokyo
(4) Local currency: Japanese Yen. The current exchange rates (subject to change) are:

4. Last date for application of Media Accreditation:
Accommodation reservation forms must be completed in full and mailed to the
Organizing Committee, at the address indicated below, by December 15, 2001 and the media
application form, by February 4, 2002.

This application form should be completed and submitted for each journalist planning to attend. Please note that
Freelance journalists and photographers must enclose a confirmation letter from the editor of the publication
commissioning coverage of these championships. Late applications will only be considered if space is available.

The press center at the “M-wave” will be opened from the first day of official practice (Friday 15, March 2002) until
the conclusion of the Gala on Sunday 24, March 2002. Workstations for journalists will be provided, Telephones and
fax machine will be available for general use on a pay-per-call basis to be paid in cash, or via major credit cards.
Prepaid phone cards will also be available for sale at the press center.

Only the opening draw on Sunday 17 March 2002 will be held at Shihshu-Matsushiro Royal Hotel located
in the southern part of Nagano city. Other intermediate draws will be held at “M-Wave” upon completion
of each part of the event mentioned in “Preliminary Event Schedule”.
