Newsletter for November 2015 The country of Côte d’Ivoire is made up of how many regions? Bobby, Jenny & Moore Mihsill: Missionaries to Côte d'Ivoire, West Africa For the answer to the trivia question above, see our blog: themihsills.blogspot.com The Mihsills Praises & Prayer Requests Visiting the Korhogo Area In which locations will the Children of Promise program begin? As the Lord leads in answering this question, we felt directed to visit several churches in the northern part of Côte d’Ivoire from November 21 to 24. On Sunday, we visited the Church of God congregations in Kolèvogo and Nouplé. On Monday, Bobby and Pastor Yeo visited the Tarato church. We were able to discuss the start of the program with church superintendent Pastor Yeo and ask questions about these various locations. The next step is to work together with the congregations to determine who would be willing to volunteer with the program, how churches can reach out to their communities as part of the COP program and where the program would be successful. We’re excited about all the Lord has in store and will be discussing further progress regarding the start of the program during the executive committee meetings in December. • Praise the Lord for safe travels during our recent Children of Promise trip to the northern area of Korhogo. • Pray for Larry and LeAnn Sellers, our teammates in ministry, as they travel during their home assignment in the U.S. Above: Enjoying fresh peanuts and a warm welcome from the congregation in Nouplé. • Praise the Lord for great visits with the Webbs (pictured below), our regional coordinators, in Yamoussoukro and with the Dodsons, friends from language school, during our visit to Korhogo. Students studied the theology of God, Anthropology, Hamartiology (study of sin), Christology, and Soteriology (study of salvation). These topics allowed for lively discussion from how to confront sin in the church to how we understand the incarnation of Christ. Each student chose a sub-topic in one of these areas and began a research paper over their chosen topic. Systematic Theology is a two-week course, so we will Above: Pastor Samuel, an IBAO continue with more topics during the January session. student, is busy at work on his Students theology paper. Research materials papers. (books, resources, etc.) are not easy to come by in Côte d’Ivoire, so students must do a large part, if not all, of their research while on campus in order to access the library. We look forward to the challenge of the second part of this course in a few short weeks! Interested in donating funds for the IBAO library? Contact Global Strategy at (800) 848-2464. A Historic Moment On Sunday, November 22nd, Bobby, Moore and I piled into our car with six others to head out to the village of Kolèvogo for the morning worship service. This Sunday was different than any other Sunday in the history of the Church of God in Côte d’Ivoire; this Sunday, the first female would be installed as senior pastor of a Church of God congregation. Pastor Anne Yeo, who has gone through training at IBAO and been in various leadership positions for some time, was asked to be the pastor of the Kolèvogo congregation. We are so excited about her call to this pastoral position and her positive response to follow where the Lord is leading her. Welcoming our Regional Coordinators On November 16th, Bobby drove to the airport in Abidjan to welcome our regional coordinators, Mike, Heather and Maddy Webb, to Côte d’Ivoire. We shared a lot of laughter, some great stories and some delicious food with them during the three days they were in the country. We enjoyed showing them around the Yamoussoukro Church of God and introducing them to the IBAO students. We even had time to take a tour with them at the world’s largest basilica located here in Yamoussoukro. Moore loved having Maddy here for a visit! We are so glad that Mike and Heather are in this role for the region of Africa; their care, concern and capabilities are evident. We thank the Lord for placing them in this position and we look forward to working with them in the years to come. Sweet Time with Friends Traveling up to Korhogo meant that we got to see (and stay with) our friends Justin and Jenna Dodson and their two daughters, Aria and Colette, who moved to this northern city in Côte d’Ivoire in September. We were in language school with the Dodsons in France. You may remember that we asked for prayer for the Dodsons in a previous newsletter as they made their cross-continental move just two months ago. God answered these prayers as they are settling in well and also answered our prayers for a refreshing time of catching up with them. The kids loved their time together, too!
