Job Purpose: To design and deliver mechanical solutions that meet customer apparel/garment and other related mechanical components requirements You will have: Honours Industrial Design, Fashion Design or Mechanical Engineering Degree Excellent Innovation skills Textiles knowledge Experience in 2D/3D CAD design Design Knowledge/Experience with wearable/fitness garments & fabrics and/or experience in designing body worn garment and accessory mechanical component a distinct advantage Day to Day Responsibilities: Apparel/Garment Design – Develop concepts and design new garment products that meet customer requirements from medical, functionally and fashion standpoints. Critically review garment designs and propose changes for design improvement, cost reduction or use of new materials. Estimate material usage and cost of garments. Prototyping– Build and test garment samples as required. Test and Verification – Test and verify samples constructed by manufacturers according to garment specifications. Generation of Documentation ‐ Generate and maintain material specifications, garment requirement specifications, verification protocols, results, test reports, assembly protocols and documentation required by manufacturers as required and in accordance with document control procedures. Manuals – Assist with the writing of manuals and other user instructions as required. Material Selection and Assembly Process – Assist R&D team and manufacturers with the selection of material meeting defined mechanical properties. Failure Analysis ‐ Investigate customer returns and find origin of problems and defects (e.g. design or manufacturing issue). Write up test reports or/and complete failure analysis related forms.
