An event in Les 2 Alpes, France, has run for four years. In 2015, the Festival debuted its first Southern Hemisphere event with the inclusion of a five day festival in Rotorua, New Zealand. With the addition of the Crankworx Rotorua event, the Crankworx World Tour concept was also launched. This event sees several disciplines within the Tour holding Crankworx Series titles and an overarching competition with the winner crowned as King or Queen of the Crankworx World Tour. The launch of the Crankworx World Tour concept created one of the strongest participant fields seen at a Crankworx Festival. The event showcased Rotorua as a world-class mountain biking destination. In fact, in 2013, Red Bull ranked Rotorua’s Whakarewarewa forest in the top eight mountain biking destinations in the world – the only Southern Hemisphere location to feature. In August 2015, the International Mountain Biking Association awarded Rotorua with its most prestigious gold-level ride centre status. This positions Rotorua as one of six preeminent Ride Centres in the world. “Crankworx Rotorua didn’t just exceed expectations, it blew expectations away. Everything about it was incredible….
