Huck Finn’s Riverboat Rambling Feat. Celebration Belle Paddlewheeler 3 Days / 2 Nights Departure Date: October 6-8 Tour Code: HUCK95 DAY ONE L Return with us to a simpler time when steamboats and paddle wheelers ruled the Mississippi River. Making our way through Wisconsin we first head to Ronald Reagan’s boyhood home in Dixon, Illinois. This modest house in Dixon, Illinois was Reagan’s home from 1920 to 1924, the site of his earliest childhood memories, and a place he recalled with great fondness. The gable-roofed, two-story white frame house is a typical late 19th-century small-town American home. From there, we will take a guided driving tour of Dixon, which is saturated in familiar U.S. history. Dixon has shaped the character of two American presidents, Abraham Lincoln and Ronald Reagan. It was a major trade route before and after the Civil War. And 6 miles down the road the first modern day plow was invented by a gentleman named John Deere. In Dixon, history is as close as a walk down the street. We will stop for the first of our two nights at the Grand Harbor Resort in Dubuque, Iowa. DAY TWO CB, L, D Board the Celebration Belle Paddlewheeler for our first full-day excursion up the Mississippi River. A continental breakfast awaits you upon boarding. Lunch and dinner meals will be served to you by the friendly crew at your reserved table. Beautiful scenery, activities and relaxation are all for you to enjoy as the boat winds its way upstream. From shallow marshes teaming with wildlife to palisades and high cliffs pass as we approach mining country. The Captain will point out sights of interest along the way and explain “locking through” procedures as we negotiate locks and dams. Showtime each afternoon features folk musicians, humorists and perhaps an appearance by Mark Twain himself! Browse the gift shop or enjoy your favorite cocktail at the bar. Ending day one of our cruise we return to the Grand Harbor Resort for a well-deserved rest tonight. DAY THREE CB, L We’re back on board the Celebration Belle for another day of adventure and history on the mighty Mississippi River. Heading downstream we enjoy the company of river barges, houseboats, pleasure craft and workboats on the third largest river system in the world. The Mississippi was once a highway for French traders, fur trappers and European settlers in the 18th Century. Continental breakfast, lunch dinner and snacks throughout the day with entertainment and fun keep us busy. We return to meet our Lamers coach and return to Wisconsin. Our fellow travelers say goodbye as we head home with wonderful memories of the Celebration Belle and the mighty Mississippi River.
