bring the residents of Lincoln and surrounds, this

exciting new project. A series of workshops delivered

by experienced presenters will literally take you from
the plot to the pot.
The first commences on Saturday 25th March from 10
am to 12 midday at the Lincoln Envirotwon Community
Garden, Birches Road, behind the Maternity Hospital.
The community garden is an initiative of the Lincoln
Envirotown Trust. This workshop VEGETABLE
GARDENING WORKS is a beginner’s guide to planning
and preparing a vegetable garden. The Community
Garden team and local gardening guru Terry Windle
will teach you about soil preparation, composting for
beginners and how to build a variety of beds in which to
grow your winter vegetables.
April—Community
Care’s
SAGES
Mentors will assist you one on one
to develop your own personal garden
plot, at no charge. Days and times are
negotiable. Free directions and support
to build a raised garden, a cloche system
or a traditional vegetable plot. Local
businesses Lincolns’ Hammer Hardware
and Leestons’ XCV84U Garden Supplies
are offering special purchasing rates for
participants of this and other sessions
throughout the project.
May—workshops entitled TASTES FROM
YOUR GARDEN will include ‘Cooking on
a Budget’ with Tutor Sandra Winter, and
‘You Are What You Eat’ smart healthy meal
ideas instructed by Ben, Head Chef from The
Laboratory. These sessions will be held at
Lincoln High School’s Home Economics facility
and scheduled during weekday
evenings
to
accommodate
working families. Free recipe
books to take home.

June—WASTE NOT, WANT NOT, Tutors will
teach you how to preserve your excess produce.
Old fashioned skills such as preserving, freezing,
dehydrating and jam/pickle making.
July—brings another session by Terry, WINTER IS NOT
THE TIME TO RELAX. This workshop on caring for
your winter garden will incorporate the use of fertilisers,
planting of green crops, seed germination and tree
pruning.
August—HEARTY FOODS, time to learn about heartwarming soups, delicious lunchbox ideas for families
and enjoyable tasty breakfasts. The Heart Foundation will
also conduct a session focussed on food choices for your
health with free giveaways.
September— traditionally the start of spring. SMART
GARDENING will teach you how to
prepare for your summer garden outlining
various ways to condition the soil, worm
farming, friendly bugs, and pesky critters.
October—Did you know that food tastes
better when you grow your own—what
are you waiting for?

summer garden layout and give advice
on selecting the right seeds and plants.
SAGES Mentors will assist you at
home, to get you under way.
