Weifang Cup Player Profiles

Weifang Cup Player Profiles
On behalf of the Western Cape Government, I would like to wish our province’s best under 19 football players who will
be competing in the Weifang Cup in Shandong province, China all the very best.
You have made the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport proud to be a partner to your success.
I would like to remind you that team work is key. A team that plays together is a far stronger team than any. Play hard,
hone your skills and learn as much as possible.
Remember that you are not only a representative of your team, but also of the Western Cape Province and South Africa
as a whole.
Make us proud and bring the cup home.
Regards,
Cultural Affairs and Sport Minister, Dr Nomafrench Mbombo

The Metropolitan Premier Cup Committee is extremely grateful to DCAS for choosing the MPC (Metropolitan Premier
Cup) tournament for the Weifang project. It is indeed and immense opportunity afforded to our youth footballers of
the Western Cape.
I have no doubt that the players will do their best in the quest to make the WC proud.
All the best to the traveling party and may this be an experience of a lifetime.
PJ Williams (MPC Tournament Director)

We are very excited to be a part of such a great initiative. We are privileged to have the opportunity to contribute towards developing and supporting our local talent.
Sending a team Western Cape to the Weifang Cup was an easy choice for us as we are committed to raising the standard of football in South Africa, and saw this as a great opportunity for the team to learn and grow as players.

Team Western Cape – Weifang Cup
Team Western Cape was invited by the Weifang Football Federation to participate in the highly rated Weifang Cup
tournament from 27 July to 2 August 2014 in Shandong province, China. The Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport
will be funding the trip in association with Metropolitan. The team is in Group B, which will see them play against Shandong Luneng Taishan, River Plate and Porto in the group stage of the Weifang Cup.
The Metropolitan Under-19 Premier Cup took place over the Easter weekend at Erica Park in Belhar, Cape Town. This
international tournament pitted teams from Nigeria and Zimbabwe against top-rated South African Professional Soccer
League Under-19 clubs such as Mamelodi Sundowns, Kaizer Chiefs and Ajax Cape Town.
A selection committee comprising former professional players and coaches selected the best 18 Western Cape players
in action at the Metropolitan Cup for Team Western Cape.
The team is extremely busy with preparations for the upcoming tournament. The squad just returned from a successful
week-long training camp. The team will depart Cape Town on the 23 July 2014 and return from China on 4 August 2014.
We wish Team Western Cape everything of the best!
