1.0
Getting started
Go to www.qld.gov.au/osrconnect and select the green Log in to OSRconnect button.
You can log in to OSRconnect using either one of these two options:

AUSkey

user ID and password.
1.1
Log in with AUSkey
AUSkey is a secure login used to access government online services. It is an online identity for you, or a
representative of your business, without the need for multiple passwords. If you have an AUSkey you can use this
rather than entering the Captcha code to log in.
Registering for an AUSkey is free; and in most cases, you will be able to use your AUSkey almost immediately. To
register for an AUSkey, your business must have an ABN. If your business already has an AUSkey administrator,
get them to nominate you as an additional user.
If you do not have an AUSkey and your organisation does not have an AUSkey administrator, you need to:

go to the AUSkey website at https://abr.gov.au/AUSkey

provide details to confirm your identity

download and install the supporting AUSkey software

download and install your AUSkey.
Once you have your AUSkey you can:

use the online management facility at https://abr.gov.au/AUSkey to view and update your AUSkey details

change your password and other details

access other government online services that also accept AUSkey.

1.1.1
Linking your AUSkey with OSRconnect
The first time you log in to OSRconnect, you will be asked to link your AUSkey. Our system will then recognise your
AUSkey when you log in and/or lodge reports via SBR-enabled software.
1. Select the AUSkey link.
(You will be taken to the Australian Government Authentication Service website to identify yourself.)
2. Select your AUSkey from the drop-down list and enter your AUSkey password. Click Continue to return to the
OSRconnect login page.
3. Enter your OSRconnect user ID and password.
4. Tick the checkbox.
5. Enter the Captcha code.
6. Click Login.
From now on, use your AUSkey to log in to OSRconnect.
Note: The next time you log in to OSRconnect, you will only need to complete steps 1 and 2—you won’t need to
enter the Captcha code.
If you experience problems installing your AUSkey, call 1300 AUSkey (1300 287 539) and quote the reference
number from your ‘Install your AUSkey to your computer’ email.
1.1.2
AUSkey for multiple clients
AUSkey cannot be linked to multiple OSRconnect client numbers, so you may wish to set yourself up as a multiuser. A multi-user ID is an individual login that can be linked to multiple client accounts. It allows you to log in once
and then switch between your client accounts without logging out.
You can then link your AUSkey to your user ID.
Call us on 1300 300 734 for information on setting up multi-user IDs and instructions on how to link your accounts.
1.2
Log in with user ID and password
1. Enter your client number or the unique 6-digit User ID.
2. Enter your password.
3. Enter the Captcha code.
The code is not case-sensitive. If you cannot decipher the code, click Get a new challenge for a new code as
many times as you need.

1.3
Changing your password
1. If you lose or forget your password, or suspect it has been compromised, click the Forgotten your password?
link at the bottom of the log in screen.
2. Enter your user ID and select Continue.
3. Enter the email address linked to your user ID. Enter the Captcha code and select Continue again.
4. Check your user details that appear and select Reset Password. You will receive an email with your new
password.
If your user ID is a 7-digit client number, you will be redirected to the OSRconnect—request/reset password form.
Submit your request, and we will contact you with the new password.
1.4
Automatic timeout and password lockout
If you are logged in to OSRconnect and the system detects no activity after 30 minutes, you will be automatically
logged out. This reduces the risk of anyone accessing your details if you leave your computer unattended.
Your account will be locked after three unsuccessful login attempts. If this happens, you can request a new
password through the Forgotten your password? link on the log in screen.

Lodgement obligations
The Lodgement Obligations tab displays your payroll tax returns that are yet to be lodged. This includes returns
that are due, not yet due and overdue.
The coloured icons indicate the status of each transaction:

green—the return is not due

yellow—the return is due that day

red—the return is overdue.
If you use the Filter and Search function to search historical records, the green tick indicates the return has been
submitted.

2.2
Payment obligations
The Payment Obligations tab displays payroll tax returns that have been submitted and have a payment amount
due. Amounts shown will reflect any part-payments made and penalties applied.
A Copy of confirmation page will display when you select a transaction number. This page will show the amount
due at the time the return was lodged.
Once a liability has been paid in full, it will disappear from the Payment Obligations tab. To search your payment
history, enter a date range in the Filter and Search function under the Payment Obligations tab.
Note: There can be a delay of up to 4 hours between lodging the return and the liability being displayed under the
Payment Obligations tab (while the information is being processed and validated).
The icons indicate the status of each transaction:

green—the payment is not due

yellow—the payment is due that day

red—the payment is overdue

hourglass—the payment request is pending.
Note: Your payment will be processed overnight based on the payment date. Until this time, the amount owing will
remain on your Payment Obligations list.

2.6.1
Searching by date range
When searching for a return in Lodgement Obligations, the ‘To date’ must be at least the due date of the return
(that is, to search for the May 2016 return, the ‘To date’ must be 7 June 2016).
In the example below, the May 2016 return was due 7 June 2016. Entering a date before 7 June 2016 in the
To date field will not show the May 2016 return in the results.
In the example below, entering 8 February 2016 in the To date field, will show the January 2016 return because it
was due on Monday 8 February (the 7th was a Sunday).
If you are using multiple search parameters (for example, date range and transaction number) and make an error
with one (for example, the ‘To date’ doesn’t cover the due date of the period or the transaction number is incorrect),
the Filter and Search function will not show any results.
1. Enter your parameters and click the Filter button.
You will see the search results under the Lodgement Obligations or Payment Obligations tabs.
2. Click Clear to clear the search criteria.

Lodging a periodic return
Important points to remember:

A periodic return is due 7 days after the end of the period. If the 7th day is on a weekend, or is a Queensland or
Australian public holiday, the due date is the next business day.

The return for the period ending 31 December is due by 14 January. If this day is on a weekend, the due date
is the next business day.

If there is no liability for the period, you must still lodge a periodic return showing $0 liability.
 Every member of a group must lodge their own periodic return for wages paid or payable for the period.
Go to www.qld.gov.au/payrolltax and select Lodging payroll tax returns for more information. The periodic
returns guide contains links to a tutorial and tips for lodging returns.
3.1
Selecting the return period
On the Lodgement Obligations tab:
1. Locate the periodic return you wish to complete from the Period column.
2. Select Create to display the return.
If you see a transaction number in the Transaction No. column, the return has been saved as draft. You can click

Lodging an annual return
Before you lodge your annual return, make sure you have:

submitted all your periodic returns for the financial year. You cannot lodge your annual return until all your
periodic returns have been submitted

checked your employer status. If your status changed before 30 June, you must lodge a final return before
lodging your annual return.
Don’t forget:

Include any wages paid or payable for the period ending 30 June in your annual return. You do not need to
lodge a separate periodic return for any period that includes June (that is, the April–June return for quarterly
lodgers, January–June for half yearly lodgers or the June return for monthly lodgers).

If you are a designated group employer, we recommend you lodge your annual return before your group
members.

The annual return is due 21 July (even if this falls on a weekend).
Go to www.qld.gov.au/payrolltax and select Lodging payroll tax returns. The annual return guide contains links to
a tutorial, handy checklist and tips for lodging returns.
4.1
Selecting the return period
On the Lodgement Obligations tab:
1. Locate the annual return from the Period column.
2. Select Create to display the return.
Note: If you see a transaction number in the Transaction No. column, you can also click on it to open the relevant
return. If a transaction number displays, this means the return has been saved in draft.

Identification
At the Identification stage, your client and period details will appear automatically.
1. You can enter your own reference (optional).
2. Select Save at any time to save your data. This will generate the transaction number (payment reference
code).
3. Select Exit to return to the Lodgement Obligations tab.
4. Click Next to continue.
The Due Date field will populate later.
Employer status

Check that your employer status is correct. If the status shown is incorrect and changed before 1 July of the
year of the annual return, do not proceed with your annual return. Complete a final return instead. Choose
Payroll Tax Final from the Create return/transaction drop-down box at the bottom of the Lodgement
Obligations tab and click Create.

If your status is changing on 30 June for the new financial year, proceed with the annual return and record the
change of status at the Status Change stage.
Start date

The start date of the annual return will automatically populate. In most situations this will be 1 July. If you have
lodged a final return during the financial year, or started to employ and became liable after 1 July, then the start
date for this return will reflect the date your status changed or when you became liable for payroll tax.

Correcting errors in payroll tax returns
If you find an error in a self-assessed or default periodic return or your annual return, you can make corrections in
OSRconnect and request a reassessment.
Before you start, print a copy of the original return—you won’t be able to do this after you have made changes and
sent the reassessment request. The following sections show how to find the return, print a copy, edit the return and
request a reassessment.
6.1
Periodic returns
You can amend self-assessed or default periodic returns only. For a reassessment of final returns or periodic
returns assessed by the Commissioner, send an email with your client number and revised wages information to
[email protected].
6.1.1
Selecting the return
1. On the Lodgement Obligations tab, locate the submitted return using the Filter & Search function.
If you have only just submitted a return, it will not display until its status is ‘Processed’. There can be a delay of up
to 4 hours between submitting a return and it being processed. If your search delivers a ‘no data available’ result,
check the transaction number or date range that you entered, or wait until the return has been processed.
2. The requested return will appear with a green tick, indicating that this is a submitted return.
3. Click the transaction number to open the return.

Making a payment
7.1
Select the Payment Obligations tab
1. Select the Payment Obligations tab to view your outstanding payments.
Note: There can be a delay of up to 4 hours between lodging a return and the liability being displayed under the
Payment Obligations tab (while the information is being processed and validated).
2. Find the return you wish to pay, and then click the link in the Transaction No. column. The transaction number
is also the payment reference code unique to that period.
A Copy of confirmation page will open (this is a copy of the Confirmation page you received when first submitting
the return). This page contains the payment options available, including the option to make a direct payment by
using Pay Now (if your bank details have been recorded).
Note: The amount owing under the Amount column in Payment Obligations may differ from the amount listed on
the Copy of confirmation under Total Payable if payment is received after the due date. This is because the Total
Payable on the Copy of confirmation is the amount owing at the time the return was submitted. The Payment
Obligations tab shows the current balance outstanding, which includes any unpaid tax interest imposed on the
overdue return.

Payment options
The confirmation page confirms your return lodgement and includes a transaction number (payment reference
code). Quote this number when paying your return by BPAY, EFT or cheque.
See the payment options available on the right-hand side of the confirmation page. These include:

direct payment—to pay directly through OSRconnect, your bank account details must already be recorded. To
find out how, go to www.qld.gov.au/osrconnect and select Manage your OSRconnect account.

telephone and internet banking—BPAY®

electronic funds transfer

credit card—BPOINT

cheque.
7.2.1
Using the Pay Now option
Direct debit is the most convenient way to pay your liability after lodging your return in OSRconnect. You can pay at
the time of lodgement or afterwards through the Payment Obligations tab.
Note: Your bank account details must be set up in OSRconnect first. The Pay Now button will only appear if your
bank account details have been recorded in OSRconnect.
At the Copy of confirmation page:
1. Click Print for a hard copy.
2. Click Pay Now to pay your liability by direct payment.
The Payment Details pop-up shows the details for the return you are paying.

The Amount defaults to the total amount due. You can adjust this figure to a lower amount, if required, and
then the Balance Outstanding will automatically update. Check the Payment Obligations tab to make sure we
have received your payment.

The Payment Date defaults to today’s date. If you change the Payment Date, it must be set to on or before the
due date, otherwise unpaid tax interest will accrue.
3. Select which bank account you want the payment to come from using the drop-down list in the Bank Account
Details field.
4. Click OK.
