Eating Smart All Summer Long! It’s a fact of life: cupcakes, chips, and other not-so-healthy food is going to be available to your child this summer. Let’s make sure that doesn’t happen all of the time and your children are served nutritious foods all summer long. ➢At breakfast, start the day off with eggs as they offer protein and vitamin D. Eating protein at breakfast helps children feel satisfied longer. ➢Fruit is the best in the summer, so fill your children’s plates with blueberries (which is the top-ranked healthiest fruit). Blueberries help improve brain function and keep unwanted belly fat away. Top any cereal, salad, or yogurt with blueberries for a great meal. ➢Stick with nuts (almonds, cashews, peanuts) for snacks or at breakfast as this food is made up of healthy fats, which children need for growth and development, as well as for heart health. Having a little bit of “good” fat in the morning gives them a burst of energy to keep them going. I Prote in! P Along with eating smart all summer long, be sure your children are active also. It allows their brain to continue to learn and grown, which is much needed during the long, summer days! Have a great summer and see you next school year! EXTRA!
