Ans: Word processing refers to the use of a computer program to prepare and print documents.
Through this software, a user enters the text with the help of input devices, views it on the
monitor, changes it as necessary, saves the documents on disk, and gets a hard copy of it from
printer.
Other useful functions of word processing software are setting of margins, line spacing,
automatically wrapping the text, deleting and searching the document for a particular sequence
of characters, underline, boldface or italicized material.

Ans: The changing of the appearance of text in a document is referred to a text formatting.
There are four different levels of text formatting.

Character Formatting:
Selection of typeface, font sizes and styles for text is call character formatting. The most
common way to emphasize text is to apply boldface, italic or underline character formatting
styles.
Paragraph Formatting:
A paragraph varies in length from a single line to a full page, and may be formatted
independently from the rest of the document. Paragraph formatting includes text alignment,
line spacing, indentation, tab setting and boarders.
Section Formatting:
Section formatting specifies page number, headers and footers for different sections.
Document Formatting:
Document Formatting specifies the overall page layout for printing. It includes choosing the
paper size, page orientation and margins.
Q.15.08Why is it significant to know that the default mode in word is the insert mode?
Ans:
In insert mode, text is inserted into the document at the insertion point. This is default
mode. When you type any character it appears at the insertion point while the existing text on
the right moves forward to make room for the new text.

Ans:
When you are working on a document, a record of what you enter is kept in the
computer’s memory. If the computer is turned off, or if there is even a momentary interruption
of power, everything in this memory will disappear and all your work will be lost if you have not
saved it. Therefore it is necessary to save a document before we retrieve another file.

Font:
A font is a combination of typeface and other qualities, such as size, pith and spacing. For
example, Times Roman is a typeface that defines the shape of each character. Within Times
Roman, however, there are many fonts to choose from different sizes, italic, bold and so on.

Ans:
Two methods of changing the margins in a document are as follows:
Double click the gray area in the “Ruler” or select Margins Tab from File; Page Setup command.
You can also change the margins of document using mouse. Position the mouse pointer over the
margins boundary until a double headed black arrow appears. Drag it to increase or decrease
the margins. In order to display the margin measurements in the ruler as you drag the margin in
boundary. Press [ALT] key and hold it down.

Ans:
Click on the File Menu on the menu bar and then choose the Print Preview command to
preview a document. Or click on the Print Preview button on the Standard Toolbar. Or press

Ans:
Before you pass a document for printing, it is better to look at the document how it
would appear when printed. Word provides the facility to preview document in full page display
before sending them to the printer. There are two modes available in print preview, which are

without leaving print preview.
