Our AWC and WSAC lobbyists will perform a post mortem on the last legislation session,
what to expect in the upcoming session, and how we can be better engaged in the
process. Commerce and Ecology will discuss initiatives impacting and supporting local

Building Leadership Capacity

Our communities need our leadership, whether in our roles as professionals or as private
citizens. Our keynote professional development session will examine leadership from a
variety of angles: Competency, Courage, Commitment and Communication. We will learn
specific attributes of leadership, improve our leadership abilities and develop our personal
toolkit to meet the needs of ourselves and our organization. Bill Barron, former Clark
County Administrator, and Janet Gallimore, Executive Director of the Idaho State
Historical Society, are our featured trainers.

The Future of Planning Education & Planners

Our most recent conferences have focused attention on younger planning professionals.
This session is an extension of that as we explore training the next generation of planners
and advocates. Gregg Dohrn, Professional Planner-in-Residence at Eastern Washington
University, will lead our discussion on what is happening at the university level, how
practitioners can help assure a relevant curriculum, how we can access student expertise
and what training opportunities are available for practicing planners.

Observations, perceptions, hopes, drama, passion, success, stumbles by our peers,
presented with sincerity, humor, pathos and conviction. Topics: a case study on over-thecounter permitting initiatives, sign code amendments post-Reed v. Gilbert, permitting on
substandard lots, planning Haiku, citizen engagement in small cities, engaged workforces
and more.

Golf on the Putting Course OR Paddleboards and Kayaks
“Small golf” on a putting course at the Don Morse Memorial Park. The course is a short
walk from Campbell’s. Also, Campbell’s will make available their fleet of paddleboards and
sit-upon kayaks for those wanting to get wet.

Recognition, Awards and Auction Dinner
Terrace
Our annual recognition of our peers for longevity, impending retirement, the newest
members, and distinguished accomplishments. We’re also bringing back the auction to
raise money for the scholarship funds at the accredited university planning programs.
