School update – happenings in the school
K Della Volpe, LHS principal, shared the following:
 CAPT Science (March 28-31) 10th grade; SAT (April 5) Juniors
 Blood Drive (March 30) - TSA
 Music for the Schools (April 4) – A.S.A.P. grant
 Kindness rocks (April 21) – A-OK
 COLT Poetry Contest (April 25) – WL Department @ Bristol Central
 Choir/Jazz concert (April 25th)

Scheduled activities
Battle of Bands and Beans – April 28, 2017 – IMPORTANT ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING
THURSDAY APRIL 20, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. FOR FINAL PLANNING. The capacity for the gym is 508
(bleachers). Chili contestants will set up in the lobby (between 5:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.) and will
contact Clare Andrulis ([email protected]) to enter. All other food tables from clubs and classes
will be in the gymnasium. Clubs and classes have begun to sign up for snacks and drinks. Debra
Brandt will get prizes for chili contestants and for the band. Sabrina Spelman will look into ordering
bracelets (about 200 that say Battle of the Bands and Beans) and cups and spoons. Chili tasting (jazz
ensemble and small group music making students will perform for background music) will run from
6:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Tallies and announcement of “winners” will occur by 6:45 p.m. The band
segment will begin at 7:00 p.m. Advertising should indicate that all children under 12 should be
accompanied by an adult. Tammy will send out the flyer to all parents through Alert Solutions, will
send a blurb to the bz, and will post the event on electric sign. An MC still needs to be identified –
Clare said that students mentioned Dr. Pascento, LHS Dean of Students (Rob Gollow and Luke
Parsons are not available). Kristen will ask Stephanie Kubisek, Litchfield Middle School principal, to
advertise to middle school families.
Spring Sports Home Game Bonanza/Barbecue – May, 2017 - discussion tabled.
Teacher Appreciation Week – May 8, 2017 – Jackie will get a blurb to Tammy to send out through
Constant Contact requesting parent support.
Pre Prom – Litchfield Community Center - May 13, 2017 – 5:00 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. The step and
repeat banner has been ordered. Keri Snowden will develop a flyer inviting parents. The theme of the
prom is “The Last Waltz.” Debra Brandt will order balloon arch (10 of 5-baloon clusters).
Celebration of Excellence Scholarships – June 6, 2017 – reviewed the scholarship prompt and it will
go out to students through guidance as usual by Wednesday, April 5, 2017.
Food for finals – June 13-16 – discussion tabled.
