SELECTED RESEARCH
2012-2014
MYFISH: Maximizing yield of fisheries while balancing ecosystem, economic and
social concerns. Postdoctoral researcher at IFM. The MYFISH project is a flagship
research initiative funded by the EU. MYFISH aims at developing new Maximum
Sustainable Yield (MSY) indicators that can ensure high levels of fishery yield
while respecting ecological, economic and social sustainability, thereby
contributing to achieve Good Environmental Status (GES) as foreseen in the EU’s
Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD).
2013-2014
GAP2: Bridging the gap between science, stakeholders and policy-makers.
Postdoctoral researcher at IFM. Field application of Q-sort methodology followed
by institutional analysis of the different case studies using interviews. The overall
project aims for the integration of evidence-based knowledge and its application
to science and management of fisheries and the marine environment.
2013-2014
SOCIOEC: Socio economic effects of management measures of the future CFP.
Postdoctoral research her at IFM. The project aims to investigate the potential
socio-economic effects of the main management principles of the future Common
Fishery Policy (CFP) and particularly the impacts of new policy framework and
opportunities for the fishing sector to develop self- and co-management.

Global review of social science integration with natural resource
management. Postdoctoral researcher at IFM. Report commissioned by the North
Pacific Research Board to describe relevant to Alaska ways that social science is
integrated with natural resource management around the world with explicit,
referenced case studies, as well as information on the social, scientific, policy, and
management structures and systems that form the context of those case studies.

ODEMM: Options for Delivering Ecosystem-Based Marine Management.
Governance research in ecosystem based management. Postdoctoral researcher
at IFM. EU 7th Framework Programme.
2012
CLICO Project. Postdoctoral researcher at The Cyprus Institute. EU 7th Framework
Programme. A political ecology perspective of the right to the sea: The Cyprus
marine aquaculture sector. The project studied the Cypriot Marine Aquaculture
governance. Research included policy analysis of the relevant national, EU and
International legislative measures, analysis of the main environmental
instruments (for example Environmental Impact Assessments and
Environmental Monitoring Reports) and interviews with relevant stakeholders.
2011
Research assistant. Wales, U.K. Calculating the carbon footprint of Welsh farms,
Bangor University.

Principal Investigator. European Union: Doctoral dissertation. The Human
Dimension of the European Fisheries Governance: the North / South divide.
October 2007 – December 2010. The project comprised of different aspects
aiming for a holistic understanding of the European fisheries governance
including: In-depth investigation of European fisheries legislation and
governance; policy analysis; study of theoretical frameworks of Common
Property Resources; surveys with fishers in Cyprus, Spain, Denmark and the U.K.;
interviews with relevant stakeholders and European Commission officials.

Traineeship (Bluebook Stagiare: 5 months) at the European Commission,
Directorate – General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (DG-MARE), Unit F2:
Information, Communication, Inter-institutional relations, Evaluation and
Programming. Activities: Assist and deal with meetings with the different
institutions (Council and European Parliament), fisheries stakeholders (ACFA / RAC)
and organizations interested in the Common Fisheries Policy and Maritime Policy.
Assist with follow up of the policy recommendations issued by the various
stakeholders. Draft articles for magazines and e-zines and DG MARE reports on the
CFP reform and general DG MARE activities.
2009
PhD Placement at the European Commission (2 months), Directorate – General for
Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (DG-MARE). Hosted by Giorgio Galizzioli, Advisor on
Simplification Issues, to i) gain knowledge and experience of EU Institutions with specific
