The James M. and Marguerite Ellis Geography Scholarship is available through the University of Central
Missouri Foundation for an undergraduate or graduate student pursuing a degree in geography at UCM. This
scholarship is made possible by way of a gift from James M. and Marguerite Ellis of Sedalia, Missouri.
BACKGROUND:
The James M. and Marguerite Ellis Geography Scholarship is established to further the study of geography at
UCM by providing assistance to geography majors; to supplement their income and allow their study to go
forward. The scholarship is also in appreciation of the Department of Geography at CMSU (now UCM) for
making my success in life possible.

CRITERIA:
To apply, a student must be a full-time undergraduate or graduate student in good academic standing and:
a. be pursuing a degree in geography;
b. demonstrate financial need.
SELECTION PROCESS:
1. The recipient(s) of the James M. & Marguerite Ellis Geography Scholarship will be recommended by
a selection committee designated by the Chair, Department of Geography. Undergraduate
recipient(s) shall be approved by the UCM Scholarships and Awards Officer. Graduate recipients
shall be approved by the Dean, Graduate and Extended Studies.
2. Application must be delivered or postmarked by March 1. Recipient(s) shall be announced by May 15 of
any given year.
3. The Selection Committee, with the approval of the Executive Director of the Foundation, will annually
establish the number and scholarship amount. In a given year, the Selection Committee may exercise the
option of making no selection.
