Zinio Instructions
Download digital magazines to your computer,
smartphone or tablet.
Read or download dozens of popular magazines on a variety of topics like home, sports, and
nature. Enjoy Zinio magazines anytime, anywhere using your portable device. Even better, you
may borrow as many as you would want, and there are no due dates.
Zinio Accounts
Two accounts are needed to use Zinio. The RWL Zinio Collection Account provides access the
library’s Zinio collection. The other account allows you to read the magazines in the Zinio
Viewer. You must first create both of these accounts before you use the Zinio app.
The Zinio App is free and allows you to view magazines on the following mobile devices: iPad,
iPhone, Android, Kindle Fire & Blackberry Playbook.
Step 1: Go to Zinio Digital Gateway
a. Click http://rbdigital.com/regionofwaterlooon/zinio (there are supposed to be 3 ‘o’s)
b. You will need an active Region of Waterloo Library card, PIN (usually the last four digits
of your phone number), and an email address.
Step 2: Region of Waterloo Library Zinio Collection Account
You will need an RWL Zinio Collection Account to select magazines.
a. To create an RWL Zinio Collection Account, click on the ‘Create New Account’ button in
the upper right hand corner of the Zinio Digital Gateway landing page.
b.
Fill in the “Create New Account” form.
c. Click “Create Account”
d. Record your user ID and password to use later. Keep this information in a safe place.
e. You will be sent an email confirming the Account set-up was successful.
Step 3: Choosing Your Magazines
a. Click http://rbdigital.com/regionofwaterlooon/zinio
b. Search for a magazine. Look for a title by browsing or using the search box.
c. Click on the magazine image or title to learn more about the magazine.
d. Click on “Checkout Now” to borrow the magazine.
e. Click on “Back Issues Available” to view past issues that are available to borrow.
Step 4: Checking Out
a. Once you click on a “Checkout now” you will see the following image.
b. Click the ‘Keep Browsing’ button to look for more magazines or the ‘Start Reading’
button to look at the magazine.
c. After clicking ‘Start Reading’ you will go to the Zinio.com webpage. Fill in the form to
create a “Zinio” account.
d. Once you have filled in the form, click ‘Register.’ You have now registered for your Zinio
Viewer account. *Tip: Use the same username and password as your RWL Zinio
Collection Account to simplify things.*
e. The magazine issue is now available in your Zinio Viewer Account, and can now be
viewed using the Zinio App.
Step 5: Read a magazine in your browser
a. Once you log into Zinio.com, you will see a list of your current issues.
b. Click on the magazine cover to read the magazine in your browser. It will open in a new
window.
c. Most magazines will automatically load on your screen. However, some magazines
require the free Zinio Reader 4 Viewer. The viewer is also needed for offline reading.
d. Download it at: http://www.zinio.com/apps/desktop.jsp.
Step 6: Download the Zinio App to your portable device
a. Turn on the device’s WiFi and connect to a WiFi network.
b. Go to App world, App store, or Play store and search for Zinio.
c. Download the Zinio App.
d. Sign in to the Zinio App using your Zinio Viewer Account account.
e. You will see three icons: an eye, a book, and a basket. Usually, the apps default to the
basket option which is Zinio’s paid subscription service. Click on the book icon to see
your list of magazines.
f. Click on the cover of the magazine to download to your device. Magazines must be
downloaded if you want to read them offline (without WiFi).
Step 7: Reading Magazines
Read previously selected magazines by signing into your Zinio.com account. If using the
Zinio.com website, click ‘Your Library’ to see your magazines. If using the Zinio App, select
‘Read.’
Step 8: Recap of Important Details
a. You must visit http://rbdigital.com/regionofwaterlooon/zinio and log in to your RWL
Zinio Collection Account to select magazines from the Library’s Zinio collection. You
can’t use magazines you order directly from Zinio.com.
b. When you make a selection, you can continue to browse for magazines or go to your
Region of Waterloo Library Zinio Viewer Account. Once logged in, click ‘Your Library’ to
see your magazines. If using the Zinio App, select ‘Read.’
c. Tip: Log out of both your RWL Zinio Collection and Region of Waterloo Library Zinio
Viewer accounts when you are finished using Zinio. If you don’t log out, other people
using that computer may have difficulty saving magazines to their Viewer Account.
