Your Host - Jay Weber
Jay Weber knows what you want
to talk about.
His show examines the big issues, trends,
and events at all levels... local, state, and
national...from a strong
conservative perspective.
A native of southeastern Wisconsin, Jay
began his radio career as a news reporter
in Madison. He came to News/Talk 1130 WISN in 1990 as a news
anchor/reporter. In 1992, Weber was promoted to News Director
and primary host of “WISN’s Morning News.” In 1998, Jay was
matched with Bob Dolan. In May 2006, Jay and Bob decided to
start new chapters in their careers. In the tradition of the other
mainstays of the News/Talk 1130 WISN lineup, the tone of Jay’s
show is aggressive and passionate, highlighting his own opinions
and the opinions of listeners and callers. Jay is also known for his
edgy sense of humor.
A graduate of Kettle Moraine High School and UW-Madison, Jay
is also a certified Wisconsin public school teacher. He has held
various part-time teaching and coaching positions.

Our flight connects in Istanbul and we continue to the
Kilimanjaro International Airport near Arusha, Tanzania.
We are met upon arrival and transferred to Lake Duluti
Serena Hotel. After check-in, enjoy a good night’s rest.
edge. Tarangire National Park is one of the newest and least
developed in Tanzania and gives visitors a greater sense of
being in the “wilds” of Africa. The fringe-eared oryx, often
seen here, may not be found in other parks. Bateleur eagle,
secretary bird, Masai ostrich, kori bustard, beautiful sunbird
and paradise whydah are a few of the birds one can expect to
see in this sanctuary, where 260 species have been recorded.
Fall asleep listening to the comforting night sounds of
Tarangire’s wildlife. Spend two nights at the Tarangire Sopa
Lodge. (B,L,D Daily)
DAYS 3 & 4 • SATURDAY & SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 13 & 14
Arusha / Tarangire National Park Travel to
DAY 5 • MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 15 Tarangire / Lake
Manyara National Park / Ngorongoro Crater Tarangire National Park, the “Baobab Capital of Tanzania.”
These large, pulpy trees are as old as California redwoods
and can branch out as much as 30 feet in diameter. Because
their leafless branches look much like roots, African legend
says baobabs were planted upside down. These magnificent
trees present a dramatic punctuation to the rolling hills of
this park and play an important role in the ecology of the
habitat. Alongthe Tarangire River there is a good opportunity
to see African elephant and Cape buffalo as they drink and
cool themselves in the large muddy pools at the river’s
Depart for Lake Manyara, an approximate 90 minute
drive. Lake Manyara National Park is one of Africa’s
jewels. In the park’s north is an extensive area of forest
populated by baboons, monkeys and flocks of noisy
hornbills. Further south is an area of umbrella thorn trees
where we find impala, zebra, giraffe and wildebeest. Visit
Manyara’s hippo pools and search for the most famous
residents: tree-climbing lions. Olive baboons, blue
monkeys and small grey vervets swingand climb with
ease through the trees. For the bird enthusiast, Manyara
DAY 1 • THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 11 Chicago / Istanbul With the departure of our non-stop Turkish Airlines flight
from Chicago to Istanbul, we begin our exciting journey to
experience the beauty and wildlife of East Africa.
DAY 2 • FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 12 Arrive Arusha See Tanzania from another perspective
on our optional balloon safari! (photo by Dennis Crull)
offers some 380 species. This afternoon, we travel to the
Ngorongoro Crater, where an abundance of food and fresh
water provides a permanent home to more than 30,000 large
mammals. Check in to Ngorongoro Serena Lodge, our home
for the next two nights. Perched on the jagged rim of the
crater, Ngorongoro Serena Lodge is a triumph of ecological
and architectural fusion and was sensitively constructed so as
to take nothing from its environment while affording endless
vistas over the heat-shimmering reaches of the crater below.
The clustered boulder-built buildings of the Lodge hug the
crater rim, linked by rope-lashed timber walkways that skirt
the buttressed roots of ancient, liana-hung trees. The interior,
radiating out from the primeval log fire glowing at the heart of
the Lodge, blends the concentrated hush of a game-viewing
hide with the ochre, rust and charcoal images of a prehistoric
cavern. The Lodge is a unique blend of world-class luxury,
timeless volcanic splendor and ethnic style. From lilacstreaked sunrise to indigo star-studded night, the Ngorongoro
Crater delivers a theatre of vistas, most unchanged since the
dawn of time. (B,L,D)
DAY 6 • TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 16 Ngorongoro
Crater Descend into the crater, renowned as the eighth
wonder of the world. Ngorongoro is the largest unbroken
crater on Earth. The year-round grazing available here
provides a permanent home for many animals. Herds
of wildebeest, common zebra and both Grant’s and
Thomson’s gazelle mingle as they feed in this serene set
ting which may, at any moment, erupt into a life and death
struggle initiated by the crater’s predators, the black
-maned lion, the elusive cheetah and the ever present
spotted hyena and black-backed jackal. These grassy plains
are interspersed with fresh and brackish water lakes and
patches of forest. In the lakes and marshes we look for
Nile hippo, common waterbuck, black rhino and any of the
over 200 bird species that have been seen here including
greater and lesser flamingo. Maasai herders can be seen
around the crater; sometimes they make the journey
with their cattle to obtain salt from the soda lake. This is
also the best place in East Africa where one can observe
a natural population of black rhino. We also have an
opportunity to visit a Maasai Village and explore the region
around the crater. (B,L,D)
DAY 7 • WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 17 Ngorongoro
Crater / Olduvai Gorge / Serengeti National Park Depart for the famed Serengeti Plains, making a stop at
Olduvai Gorge en route. Olduvai Gorge is the site of the famed
“Zinjanthropus” discovery. In 1959, it became the most famous
prehistoric site in Africa with Mary Leakey’s discovery of a
1.7 million-year-old fossil skull. Real ancestral bones emerged
from Olduvai only two years later, when fossils discovered

by the Leakeys’ son, Jonathan, were named Homo Habilis,
or “The Handy Man.” It is thought to be the first tool maker.
Thousands of stone tools have been found at Olduvai.
Continue on to Serengeti National Park. Your game runs in
the Serengeti may afford you a glimpse of the black-maned
lion for which the Park is renowned, as well as leopard and
other predators. Keep your camera ready for spectacular
photographs of these predators and their prey – wildebeest,
zebra, gazelle, eland, hartebeest, impala and giraffe. In the
great Serengeti kingdom, the large predators – lion, leopard,
cheetah and spotted hyena – remain locked in an age-old
rivalry for supremacy, with millions of herbivores as their
quarry. Visitors are privileged witnesses to the savage rituals
of predator and prey acted out each day on these plains. This
is not just another tour; it is a journey into Eden, for millions
of animals make their home in the Serengeti and live in
total freedom in vast plains scattered with prehistoric rocky
outcrops, patches of acacia, and sand rivers. Spend tonight at
the Serengeti Serena Lodge. (B,L,D)
DAYS 8 & 9 • THURSDAY & Friday, SEPTEMBER 18 & 19 Central Serengeti Plains / Northwest Serengeti Enjoy a day of exploration in the massive Serengeti Plains,
moving from the central region to the northwest for game
drives and opportunities to find large numbers and herds.
Excursions in the Serengeti offer opportunities to spot
wildebeest, zebra, gazelle, topi, impala and hartebeest
along with predators. If one part of Africa encapsulates all
that is wild and free, it is the Serengeti. Derived from the
Maasai phrase meaning “endless plains,” the Serengeti
is the scene of the greatest wildlife migration on earth,
sweeping back and forth in ancient rhythm with the
seasons. Spend two nights at the exclusive Kirawira Camp,
a truly elegant tented camp set on a hill overlooking the
expansive plains of the Serengeti. (B,L,D)
DAY 10 • SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 20 Serengeti Plains /
Arusha / Departure for Istanbul The morning is
free for final exploration of the Serengeti prior to our flight to
Arusha. Dayrooms are provided at Lake Duluti Serena Hotel.
Hot Air Balloon Safari • $545 per person, subject to change
You may schedule an exciting balloon flight over the Serengeti. This departs in
the early morning and lasts for about an hour. Experience the romance and sheer
pleasure of ballooning. Your flight pattern varies from a gentle glide above the
treetops to soaring with the speed of the clouds as you climb several thousand feet
into the air. This is a rare opportunity to get a birds-eye view of the various plains
animals and their movements. Afterward, sit down to a spectacular champagne
breakfast, specially prepared by your crew. Your breakfast site is situated right in
the midst of the African bush. As you savor your meal of fresh fruit, your choice of
eggs, bacon, sausage, tea or coffee and of course, champagne – watch as giraffe,
zebra, wildebeest and other local wildlife go about their daily routines.
