There are many ways to become involved, requiring various levels of time and commitment.
Please contact a PTO member to find out more about any of the positions listed below
or for help finding a place to get plugged in.
The Volunteer Coordinator assists all committee members
with finding volunteers to support the efforts and activities of each committee.
FUNDRAISING

This committee coordinates fundraisers conducted by the PTO during the year. The profits
are used to fund the PTO committee budgets, sponsor school enrichment events, and make
special purchases. The committee members are responsible for communication with the
staff and fundraising companies. They will also organize groups of volunteers to help with
the processing of orders and product distributions.

Box Tops and Milk Caps are collected for additional fundraising which allows PTO to grant
various requests for special programs / projects. Campbell’s labels are collected to earn free
items to be used on the playground.
The volunteer coordinator will use volunteer interest surveys completed by parents at the
beginning of the year in order to compile lists of volunteers who are willing to help in each of
the following areas. This coordinator will also use this information to help identify room
representatives for each classroom.
HISTORIAN
APPAREL
This committee attends various school activities in order to take photos. They also collect
others’ photos throughout the year. The school even has a camera in the office that can be
used to capture those special moments. Those photos are used by this team to design the
memory book. Recently, digital memory books have been produced with the help of the
school picture photographer.
In effort to promote school spirit, the PTO makes Forest Glen Timbertail apparel available for
sale several times each year. The apparel sales coordinator is responsible for the collection
of orders and communication with the apparel vendor.
HOSPITALITY

This committee provides refreshments for the school’s Art Show, Interest Fair, and various
other school events. They also request and organize volunteer donations for events like the
Holiday Concert Cookie Social and meals for the teachers during Parent / Teacher
conferences.

These events provide an on-site bookstore offering Scholastic books for purchase. Teachers,
in turn, are provided earned credit towards books to build their classroom libraries
benefitting all students. The co-chairs are responsible for communication with Scholastic,
organizing volunteers for set-up and take-down of products, and preparing the sale proceeds
for deposit.

PARENT NETWORK

Parent Network’s mission is to provide an atmosphere in which students, parents, and faculty
are able to interact and make connections. This committee sponsors many activities
throughout the school year which include Open House and family fun nights.
PLAYGROUND MAINTENANCE

This committee is responsible for making our playground a clean, safe environment for our
kids. Duties include refreshing paint, maintaining equipment, and clean-up.
PUBLISHING CENTER

The publishing center is a place where materials are prepared for various classroom projects
and events. The coordinator is responsible for maintaining the equipment, ordering supplies,
and scheduling volunteers.

This program provides free books to each student during the school year. Book distributions
focus on students’ desire to select their own reading material and aim to turn kids into
lifelong readers.
SPRING CARNIVAL

The Spring Carnival is a school wide event providing food, games, and entertainment for the
whole family. Committee members are responsible for organizing groups of volunteers to
help with requesting donations for silent auction and raffle items, as well as baked goods and
other supplies. They also schedule volunteers for help with the games and preparing and
serving food.
The PTO is a volunteer organization that according to our Bylaws, “exists to assist through a volunteer
program the implementation of various activities beyond the academic curriculum to secure the highest
advantages in physical, mental, and social education, and to raise funds to provide equipment and
materials for (Forest Glen School).” All parents and teachers of Forest Glen students are automatically
members of the PTO; there are no dues or membership fees. Parents and faculty work together to
determine the needs of Forest Glen’s staff and students, then identify ways we can help to meet those
needs.

Being involved in your children’s school is a great way to impact the quality of
their education. The Forest Glen PTO provides the vehicle for this
involvement. Your volunteer efforts will help to build relationships with the
staff and students at Forest Glen. Those relationships will allow both you and
your children to have a more personal experience during their years here.
Monthly PTO meetings are held the first Tuesday of
the month at 6:30 PM in the Forest Glen Library, with
the September meeting held the second Tuesday.
Childcare is provided at no charge.
