Please note that your child’s position at TPA is secure unless you indicate that your child will not be returning for the 2017-18 school year. We are grateful for your participation in this reenrollment process. This process will help us be better prepared for the coming school year by collecting this information prior to the summer months. We appreciate your timely cooperation with this process and ask that the completed re-enrollment packet be printed and returned to the Front Office by Friday, April 21, 2017. TPA Summer Academy Brochure – Discounts for Registrations by May 4 Click here to see new classes added to the TPA Summer Academy. Classes will be held for three weeks, from June 5-23. A $10 discount per class is available for registrations received by May 4. Dress Code Reminder Parents, please help us by checking that your children meet our dress code before they leave home in the mornings: All students: “Students should dress their best, look their best, and do their best. All clothing must be clean, neat, reasonably pressed, and in properly fitting condition.” Men: If a T-shirt or other style of undershirt is worn, it must be white, and the sleeves of any such shirt may not extend beyond the sleeves of shirt worn over it. Women: When properly adjusted at the student’s waist, the skirt hem should be touching the top of the knee while standing and within one inch of the ground when kneeling on a level surface. AzMerit Testing Arizona State Testing this week for 10th and 11th grade in Reading and Math. Please be sure your student arrives on time; all testing will begin promptly at 8am. Try to avoid making appointments during the day. If a student begins the exam, they must complete it that day. Sample tests are available online at http://azmeritportal.org/sampletests/. Senior Thesis Defenses Open to Parents and Students All TPA students and parents are invited to attend the Senior Thesis defenses. SHINING KNIGHTS Congratulations to Senior David Hudson who signed his letter-of-intent on athletic College Decision Day for Division 1 Swimming at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in California! David, who is also an Academic All-American Scholastic Swimmer, will study Biomedical Engineering at Cal Poly. He says, “Tempe Prep has prepared me immensely for what is ahead. The broad liberal arts education, with a focus on understanding rather than merely memorizing facts, has given me a bigger picture way of thinking that I know will benefit me in both college and my future career.” Looking ahead, David beams, “I am incredibly excited to work with the team and study in Cal Poly’s College of Engineering. The coach and all the people I have met at Cal Poly are amazing. Baseball: Last Home Run at Tempe Diablo Sports Complex TPA Baseball is leading our Region and ranked #11 in our Conference with a 10-2 record. The regular season is coming to an end with the State Tournament beginning the first weekend of May. Bring a lawn chair and come watch a home game at the Tempe Diablos Sports Complex (at one of the auxiliary fields to the west of the west parking lot of the stadium), all beginning at 6 pm: Monday, April 17 v. Bourgade Catholic Tuesday, April 18 v. Veritas (Senior Night) The Knights will be vying for a region championship on their way to the playoffs. Baseball: No Hitter and a Perfect Game On Friday, April 7, Sophomore Griffin Bodow was at the mound for the Knights and, with the help of teammates, pitched a “No Hitter” in a 10-0 victory over North Pointe Prep. Then on Monday, April 10, for an encore performance, Junior Cameron Pickard was at the mound for an extremely rare “Perfect Game” against Valley Lutheran. In the complete game by Cameron, not a single player from Valley Lutheran go to first base as the Knights went on to win15-0. The was covered by ASU Journalism student, Mr. Chris Roth and was our first Perfect Game in Coach Kandler’s 17 year coaching career. Congratulations to the dominant Knights and these two outstanding performances. COMMUNITY SERVICE Community Service Opportunity at the AIA State Track Meet – May 5 and 6 Coach Nancy Calahan is spearheading the need for 10 Tempe Prep students who need volunteer hours to work at the AIA State Track Meet on May 5th and if possible, again the 6th. This work is usually moving hurdles or replacing the bar for high jump or shagging the shot put or discus or raking in the long jump pit. Volunteers receive a track t-shirt, a meal ticket, and get a great view of the events taking place on the track! Hours on Friday the 5th would be approximately 3 to 10 pm. Hours on Saturday would be approximately 2 pm to 10 pm. You can work as many or as few hours as your schedule will allow. Volunteer Opportunity as a Seed Librarian at Tempe Library Do you like gardening and sustainability? Volunteer as a Seed Librarian with Garden Pool! Seed Librarians help the local community have access to free seeds by volunteering at the Seed Library at Tempe Public Library and on occssion at the Garden Pool Headquarters in Mesa. Help sort and package seeds, audit the seed library, keep inventory up to date, take care of plants at the Seed Library. Click here for more information. Grades 9-11: Community Service hours due May 1 Students in grades 9-11 are required to complete (and record on x2VOL in Naviance) at least 10 hours of volunteer community service each year by May 1. Make sure that you have included an email address of an adult that supervised your service hours and will respond to the email verification that they received. During the immersive camp, SPOT 127 staff, KJZZ journalists and media professionals mentor students while they produce audio and video pieces. Participants spend two weeks learning to report, write, shoot and edit audio and video stories with the latest equipment. It is an excellent opportunity for students to get hands-on production experience and to develop multimedia pieces that can be used in portfolios and scholarship and college applications.
