Vocabulary Strategy: Similes
Name
A simile compares two very different things. It uses the word like
or as. Look at the example of a simile in the sentence below. The
underlined words are compared.
My cousin swims like a fish.
This simile means that the cousin swims very well and feels at home
in the water.
Read each sentence below. Underline the words that are
compared. Then circle the letter of the best definition of the
simile.
