Living your family`s legacy

Living your family’s legacy
Living your family’s legacy
Every family member contributes to the family legacy. It’s not just about older members of the
family passing on memories, gifts, or traits. It’s how the current generation lives the legacy.
Family legacy means the accomplishments, beliefs, actions and guidance you demonstrate in your life.
These are elements of family legacy that are the guidepost for current and future generations.
Knowing and understanding your family legacy makes it easier for family members to adopt and adapt them in a
way that is a positive reflection of the entire family.
Research and discover your family’s histories, cultures and stories. The current generations can decide which parts
of the discovered legacy are beneficial and decide what new legacy traits or standards they want to add.
The family should reach consensus on the goals and actions define and live the family legacy.
Here are some exercises to help you define and live your family’s legacy. The exercises can be done
at the family reunion, with a group discussion for disclosure and agreement. Or, the activities can be
completed when family members get home and schedule a time to discuss the family’s legacy.
