Muckraker Magazine Article Project
This week you will be transported back in time to the turn of the 20th
century! Life there will be very different and as a muckraker, it is up
to you to identify problems and publish an article for the public.
The following are the requirements to be published in a national magazine:
1. Complete a field investigation notebook (turned in with your article)
2. Fill in an outline of your article (turned in with article)
3. The finished product must include:










Title of the magazine
Date of publication (remember, you are now in the 1900s)
Attention grabbing title for your article
Byline (your name)
An introduction paragraph explaining muckraking and the
progressive movement
One to two body paragraphs that identify a problem, facts about the
issues, realistic example of the problem, and a direct quote
A conclusion paragraph describing the possible solutions to the
problem you investigated and encouraging the public to take action
A photograph that relates to the problem or issues discussed
A caption describing what the photograph is and why it is significant
Any other creative elements that will make your article realistic and
eye catching
